Donald Trump, speaking to the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), repeatedly said that Jews won't vote for him because, since he isn't accepting donations, they will not be able to control him with their money.
“You are not going to support me even though you know I am the best thing that could happen for Israel. I know why you are not going to support me. You’re not going to support me because I don’t want your money,” Trump told a full auditorium of Jewish donors and Republican Jewish supporters. “You want to control your own politicians.”
This plays into anti-Semitic claims that Jews control the country with their money. Has he said this to any other group? Has he told evangelicals that they won't vote for him because they can't control him with their donations? No. Only the Jews.
It is totally bizarre that he would say something so offensive to Jewish voters. Furthermore, why would he ever tell any group of voters that they are not going to vote for him? If that's true, why did he even speak to them? It's a defeatist attitude.
I don't believe, on the basis of this alone, that Donald Trump is an anti-Semite, but these statements put his judgement into question.
Furthermore, he displayed stunning ignorance of what is going on in Israel. He said that once he is president, he is optimistic that with his deal-making skills he can bring peace between the Israelis and Palestinians in six months, or perhaps less, if both are "committted" to peace.

Using "Child Psychology" on adults I think!
The whole story is false.
And let’s be honest. With all the experts on this forum who want to tell Trump they know what he should do, Trump is cresting 40% support and really does not need their help.
Trump knows what he is doing. He will surprise everyone and do right by Israel.
I’m not sure if their full speeches are available. The short clips on youtube are not helpful.
It was very instructive to listen to Ted Cruz, Donald Trump and Lindsey Graham, and audience response.
Listen to their full speeches. And then decide....
RE: The whole story is false.
Can you please, for our benefit, cite a reliable source for that?
Israel, circa 1948, was remarkably similar. Many had fled post war Europe or survived Hitler's gulag of death camps.
I don't mean to play on stereotypes here, but you could throw out a dozen or more examples of people who came to this country with next to nothing and, if not wealthy, were at least solidly middle class by the 3rd generation.
Sure knows how to win friends, doesn’t he?
Poverty is probably in the very religious households. Judaism requires such religious attendance that how one could fit in employment is beyond me. This is also true of religious Jews in Israel. Reform Jews, of course, are far more wealthy.
Insulting voters you are courting is never good form.
Actually if you do not tell what you believe to be the truth, isn’t that just pandering?
>> Sure knows how to win friends, doesn’t he?
He took the Dale Carnegie course.
I listened to Trump and his words are being twisted yet again!
Trump may be baiting this audience like a child does with other children, saying “You won’t do this,” knowing they may well do so just to show the other person. Or he may be appealing to the audience’s sense of reality.
Yeah he does but he speaks his mind and leaves it to everyone to decide. This group of well off Jewish Republican Donors in particular that he was speaking too are used to having their butts kissed. I have no doubt that Trump will support Israel and now that he’s pissed off the rich Jewish Republican Donors some which are the most liberal Republicans on earth and established his independence from them he’s going to go off and meet with Netanyahu and in his bold Trumpian fashion commit to protecting Israel and not only declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel but likely say something purposely designed to piss off the Palestinians who he has no secret love.
He apologized over and over for the comment and he still has to answer for it. Trump won’t apologize.
Trump said that he PERSONALLY knew most of the audience members. He was talking to them in a very personal way.
He was NOT talking about Jews in general, he was talking about the people in the room, who received him with great enthusiasm.
Just maybe Trump knew exactly what he was talking about, and the audience knew that Trump knew exactly what he was talking about. In other words, Trump did not feed them baloney, he was being truthful with them (as they knew).
Maybe that was why they received him so enthusiastically, because he did not treat them like fragile children.
He’s not insulting all Jews because he insults a few rich Jewish Donors. Just wait till he meets with Netanyahu in Israel. Trump is setting a stage and will make all the important Jews and Christians happy in the end in Israel. Most of those Jews he was talking to are rich liberal Jews who are indeed used to exercising control in Republican politics not that Trump has reserved this critique for rich Jews. Trump kisses no asses not matter if they are plated in gold and in the end it will benefit him more than not.
