Get ‘Amana’ for Washers and Dryers.....I just got a new set and absolutely love them! I can wash two single bed blankets at once with room left over...and the water level saver is a dream!

I am going to really miss my local “Sears at Home” store.

My Kenmore washer, dryer and dishwasher have never failed me since 1993.

You're very fortunate. Kenmore Washers & Dryers were made to "Sears" specifications by Whirlpool. For a time, that meant they were actually good quality and built to last.

Wife and I purchased a set in 1986 when we were married, they lasted just about six years. The transmission on the Washer went first, the Dryer gas burner assembly and both solenoids went out and it cost more to repair/replace just the gas burner assembly than to replace the whole thing.

So we bought a set of Maytag's that lasted us just about 20 years until a small house fire in our laundry room ruined them (smoke damage.) Replaced them both with a new set of Maytag Atlantis series and have been happy with them since.

When we moved into the house we live in now back in April of 1992, the very first thing I did was rip out all the Sears appliances (Dishwasher, range / cooktop, garage door opener, water softener) and replace them all. Peace of mind not having that crap in my house.

Have you visited this site yet? I can remember circling and folding down corners and all that stuff for my letter to Santa.

Our store has Blue Light Specials...I understand they brought those back not too long...going over big at our store here.

I don’t know why some posters don’t like K-Mart.....it’s always been the place I can find great buys and excellent kid gifts for Christmas. My family always comments favorably for that!....Much better than Wal-Mart.

Of course it’s very close to my home so easy in and out. I hate shopping!

Find Uranium in your own backyard!

I wonder if anybody ever cashed in on the $10,000.

One reason why Sears might be on the ropes is because of Obamacare and minimum wage increases.

I worked for Sears for four years back in the 1980's. The seeds of their destruction were sewn long before Obama came along. Trust me, I hate Obama and I'd love to blame Sears failure on him but that just wouldn't be true.

Sears hasn't updated their business model, stores, layouts, freshened up their look, hired reasonably intelligent people, etc.. for DECADES. The last time I stepped foot in the Sears in the local mall I could tell it hadn't changed AT ALL. Same color scheme from the 1980's, same signs, everything.

Sears has been so grossly mis-managed its frightening.

You are correct though: Sears "value" is in the property they hold. They're worth more in real estate than actual store sales/revenue. When Sears is finally sold off, they will be worth MORE in parts than as a whole. Way more.

I think it’s on the ropes due to what the CEO is doing to the company which is basically gutting it / not reinvesting.

I just read this and it has some interesting points.

I’m thinking maybe this is from mid-40’s to early 50’s.
