Wilson effectively ceased to be President on October 2, 1919 and his second wife became President for the remaining year and a half. It’s worth noting the Palmer Raids commenced a month AFTER his incapacitation (beginning November 1919). One wonders if they would’ve happened had he possessed his faculties to the end of his second term or whether de facto President Edith Bolling Galt Wilson gave the OK.

The whole communist/anarchist movement in the USA at that time is so unknown (and fascinating!) to the general public. Even I, who relishes studying this particular subject, am ignorant of the policies for containing this menace. All I know is that Palmer finally cracked down on these monsters.
