“You don’t have to have a lawyer to sell a home but it’s suggested and I suggest you have one. It’s a good thing.”

Any time you need a lawyer for anything it’s definitely NOT “a good thing!” They are simply the agents for legalized theft. So in NJ in addition to paying RE commissions, you have to pony up for a lawyer probably because your lawyer-riddled legislature has written RE laws in such a fashion that there’s room for fraud and therefore a lawyer is “necessary for your protection” is that it?

In the context it is good to have. At least for form-filling purposes, where the impact of item 18c being left blank could mean getting socked with a penalty. This is not to wish that society could be simpler. That’s like saying you don’t need guns because nobody should be murdering or robbing.

Yep. We don’t need a real estate agent to buy or sell a home in NJ but a lawyer is necessary. Worth the money spent.Saved us a ton of money and worry. This is NJ. I’ll always remember my Dad’s words to us when we decided to buy a home and settle in NJ (because it was close to South Philly where my parents lived, etc.). He suggested we settle anywhere else, in PA suburbs of Philly,or in middle PA, in DE, in VA, anywhere but Jersey. We should have listened to him but we didn’t. We were living in the DC area when we were married and I hated it there. It was too far from my parents, family, friends. So my husband applied for positions in NJ so we’d be closer, which was great. Now I know what my Dad meant, lol.
