Given its track record, how important is IOWA, in reality?

Santorum was always in single digits. The Iowa caucus was a one and done. By the way, the guy who ran Santorum’s campaign in Iowa is working for Trump today.

Given the dynamics of the race, if Trump wins then Iowa predicts the next President and it’s pretty much a formality given Trumps current lead in other states. If Cruz wins, it’s ground shaking but then NH and NC become major factors in the race. Just my two cents.

Trump is not your usual candidate. He’ll barnstorm that state in the last two weeks and you can easily guess what’s going to happen.

Given its track record, how important is IOWA, in reality?Iowa has special importance this year, because it will give the infotainment complex eight days to talk down Trump before NH.
Iowa is not a primary. There are no voters. "Winning" it is meaningless - just ask President Santorum or President Huckabee.
But it's not ideal Trump territory, like NH is.
I expect that Cruz will get close to Trump in Iowa, and I expect Ben Carson to do well there, also. If Trump doesn't finish first (and I don't expect him to), the collective media orgasm will be overwhelming - until real voters get into the picture on February 9.

Probably tells you who’s not going to win. Romney, the total establishment candidate, had won virtually nothing and was just chugging along with his own personal funding, liberal backers and people like Rush Limbaugh destroying the only serious non-GOP-e opposition (Gingrich). But then he sailed in after the other candidates had destroyed each other and Rush had eliminated the competition. So I don’t really think it matters who wins Iowa and I think it’s somewhat of a waste of time to worry about it.
No matter who wins Iowa, unless somebody new emerges in the next debate and gets people behind him, the GOP candidate is going to be Bush.

There you go. The mainstream media would rather have Cruz in there instead of Trump.

Look....Carson doesn't want to win...he wants the money.
He's spent sh** ecept for his cronies and this new travel adventure to Jordan...or wherever...to give them Halloween Candy. His very best friend is a felon convicted of Medicare fraud....imagine that.
And the guy goes away for 3 weeks on a book tour?
Gimme a break...He'll take the money and give it to his favorite charity....his on the side business.

The primaries will settle into a contest between Trump and Cruz.

Santorum was always in single digits. The Iowa caucus was a one and done.
Just...not...so.
Santorum won numerous states and came in second to Romney in 2012. As far as single digits, here are some of his results:
55% in Missouri
51% in Kansas
49% in Louisiana
45% in Minnesota
40% in Colorado
40% in North Dakota
38% in Michigan
37% in Ohio
37% in Tennessee
37% in Wisconsin
35% in Alabama
35% in Illinois
34% in Oklahoma
33% in Mississippi
32% in Wisconsin
