Will Turkey’s and Egypt’s loss be Israel’s gain?

Israel's Ministry of Tourism is incentivising Russia's travel trade in a bid to redirect Russian tourists who have been deterred from travel to Turkey and Egypt to come to its Eilat resorts on the Red Sea primarily, but also to the Mediterranean in the Tel Aviv region.

The Ministry has earmarked an extra ILS10m ($2.6m) to an existing campaign targeting Russians, according to Michal Gerstler, a spokesperson for the ministry. The additional funds follow the latest developments of a Russian fighter jet downed this week affecting travel to Turkey and a ban on Russians going to Egypt after a Russian civilian plane was blown up by terrorists (still to be officially confirmed)

Eilat is an obvious alternative to Sharm el-Sheikh as it is also on the Red Sea although it is a more expensive option for Russians looking for cheap winter sun destinations.

Travel between Russia and Israel is visa free, and has been for quite a while. Relations between Russia and Israel are much better than generally perceived in the West, and also have been for quite a while.

You are DAMN RIGHT - thanks for paying attention. The media (and President) in this country wants us to think that Putin is some kind of MONSTER (and sadly, many FReepers buy it), but Israel seems to think the OPPOSITE.

For example, this was a NON-TRIVIAL event that was mostly ignored by the US media (understandably, since it didn’t directly involve the US), but it says EVERYTHING:

“Shimon Peres, Israel’s president, attended the opening of the (Moscow Jewish Museum) and said it affected him deeply, stirring childhood memories.”

He was there with Putin, who has been TOTALLY SUPPORTIVE of Russian Jews wishing to move to Israel. Given that history, I expect that there will soon be a LOT of Russians visiting and enjoying Israel.

An interesting fact: Russia launches most or all of Israel's satellites, including their secret intelligence satellites.

OK, that's nice, but it really means that Israel has considerable confidence in Russia handling their best and most secret tech gear, ... and in the general market there is considerable competition AND collaboration between Israel and Russia in the hi tech industry.

Yep, and that is what makes the S-400 missile system a GAME CHANGER.

Sure would have been nice if the US were able to identify and support its natural allies, but we punted there (and just Obama).

Here is a link that may interest you: Almaz-Antey 40R6 / S-400 Triumf Self Propelled Air Defence System / SA-21

Helps individually identify the S-440. Takes a while to load, but it's clean.

Damn - I wonder if the Russians would be willing to sell us a few copies - we could use some 21st Century technology in our military also.

From what I've been able to determine, the S-400 has all critical parts including electronic circuits manufactured within Russia by vetted Russians, so I think not.

The obvious reason is that this in-house process will make it considerably more difficult for all the talent outside Russia to compromise the S-400 system (apparently, all their new stuff is also held this closely).

An alternate theory has also been proposed, that by isolating Russia since the Serbian conflict, the West forced Russia to become self sufficient in weapons innovation.

Considering Russia’s role in WW2, how could it be any other way?

Obama stabs Israel in the back and Turkey does the same to Russia.

Maybe the middle east is changing to benefit Israel and Russia.

Israel and Russia could end up big winners here and Turkey could go into a tail spin economically and strategically.

If Putin really wanted to stick it to Erodgan (and Obama, too, for that matter), perhaps he should have Russia recognize an independent Kurdistan - which would include those parts of ‘Syria’ where the Kurds are a majority.
