There have been a lot of protests from minority students on college campuses who are angry about the alleged racism they feel from the schools they have chosen to attend. But when you read this article in the Times about minority unhappiness at Amherst, a lot of it sounds like mental anxiety, even illness, created by affirmative action:
Hundreds of students crammed into Amherst College's Robert Frost Library for a sit-in against racial injustice that turned into a confessional, as one black or Hispanic student after another rose to talk about feelings of alienation and invisibility on campus. They wanted the administration to apologize for "our institutional legacy of white supremacy," among many other forms of discrimination, like "heterosexism, cis-sexism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, ableism, mental health stigma and classism." Irisdelia Garcia, a Latina sophomore from New York, said she could feel lonely.Mental health stigma? Feelings of loneliness? What does that have to do with racism?
Andrew Lindsay, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica, who is majoring in law and political science, said he felt like the title character of Ralph Ellison's "Invisible Man," a book he had read on his own in college. "You're here and you're seen, but maybe you're not seen for who you are," he said.Why does this black man feel this way? Could it be because he feels looked upon as an affirmative action student, one picked for his race despite lower grades?

I totally agree. Minorities have been given everything they can possibly imagine, expect more and indeed have become the “entitled”, at least in their own minds. Cut off all the “free sh&t” they expect and treat them the same as anyone else, then let them scream, hopefully to deaf ears. Like millions, I'm sick and tired of hearing how they are the “under privileged”

Looks like Amherst is trying very hard to be a remedial college, a ‘new world’ community college.
They admitted as much when they decried the leg up given to students with parents that read to them as children. The Trayvon Martin case, with that friend of his on the stand, should have opened people’s eyes to how bad the education system is in certain minority areas. To get through school without the ability to read cursive is damning; English is as foreign to this woman (and many like her) as the language of Mordor in “The Lord of the Rings”.
Too many go to school (and on to the workplace) without basic education; I can’t imagine their unemployment rate wouldn’t be 95% without government hiring and set-asides. Their academic failures have made it very easy for non-English speaking immigrants to simply replace them in the workforce.
At these elite selective schools, it doesn’t have to be that bad. The black students can be quite good by modern standards, and still get run over by the brilliant and driven white students. The blacks might be ‘A’ students at a good state university, where white students with good but not great backgrounds set the tone.
We place these kids into an environment where they cannot possibly excel and expect what? They turn into resentful adults.
B.O. failed in college and somehow got into Harvard Law, graduating with honors? He is the resentment king.
It does not “cause “ mental illness. The student knows he was admitted, received money, and was promoted without merit. He can’t bear to admit that to himself and pushes his failings onto the evil White establishment. That way he doesn’t have to acknowledge his self-inflicted pathologies.

All this institutionalized teat business dehumanizes people and assaults their dignity. Truly the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
I think that this anger, which is so deep-rooted as to seem impenetrable, leads to all sorts of mental disorders, paranoia being one of the first.
Had a petty disagreement with a black man recently and we hadn't exchanged three sentences when he started with the "don't give me that White sh-t!" The the black man in America, everything is about White People. That seems pretty psychologically messed up.
I’ve pointed out that this is the basic flaw of the policies; a black student who would fit in a county college is bumped up to a state school (where he/she lags behind the “real” students), and the black student who is genuinely qualified for the state school is bumped up to the Ivy League (where he/she would again lag behind the “real students”). The fact that the latter is a better student in no way provides a better outcome; they are still behind, only get through with winks & nods, and haven’t learned much of anything (except their true standing).
It is a recipe for disaster, and crushing to their self esteem.

1. While this is true (for EVERYONE), these snowflakes have been taught to feel real pain under the delusion that all other people have some sort of obligation to divine what makes others tick. It never occurs to them that they don’t actually know “who whites are”, just by their skin color.
2. Ok, Andrew Lindsay, I’d be real curious to know WHO YOU ARE, or at least who you think you are. So tell us. Do you dress, act, and perform academically like “who you really are”? Are we supposed to guess your secrets despite camouflage?
3. Be careful what you wish for. I suspect most whites project much more benign assumptions about many of the non-whites they encounter than the objective truth would justify.
Any “affirmative action” hire must always wonder, if not for the GIFT just handed over, free, gratis, no strings attached, could he (or she) have ever been able to do it on talent alone?
No one shall ever know, because the talent, if any, was never tested. And untested and untried, it simply withers away, only the hack remains.
So, yes, almost all “affirmative action” hires end up being hacks. That cannot do much for self-esteem even in a mentally healthy person. For those of already shaky psychological capabilities, it is part of a long slippery slide into the abyss.
The Current Occupant was simply HANDED a Nobel Peace Prize, before he had any record one way or the other, just on speculation. Has he earned any of that adulation since? Got to be weighing on his mind and soul.
The differences between many blacks & whites can’t be bridged without massive changes, starting with education. Months ago when the black employee killed the white reporter and cameraman, I pointed out that one thing always overlooked in race relations is the non-black supervisors that have to deal with perpetually-aggrieved black employees. In the workplace, many blacks can’t understand why a doctor with five years’ experience is paid more than a receptionist with ten; they simply chalk it up to racism without any understanding of market forces at work or skills required.
I had cautioned a black co-worker (with whom I am friendly) about automatically using race as a scapegoat for such things as missed promotions (she has a high school education and feels she should be supervising more experienced college grads because she was in the company longer); I just can’t believe it doesn’t effect her health adversely. Unfortunately, some blatant cases of genuine “white privilege” (money thrown at an incompetent white woman by a white boss who is pursuing her romantically, for example) are enough to convince her it is everywhere.

My experiences with educational reverse discrimination students were
They were highly unqualfied from the start
They skipped class, late to class,, and far more unprepared than others
They kept with their own kind and didnt socialize
Most were academic casualties
A waste of money, resources and everyone’s time, including their own
Inbreeding causes mental illness. If your daddy has kids all over the landscape youre probably breeding with one. Drugs cause mental deterioration. Breeding with the mentally retarded causes mental illness. The mentally ill pass on mental illness. Period.

No, white privelege means not having to grow up surrounded by other black people and the crime and social pathologies that come with it
They have an inferiority complex because they were elevated to schools which demand more than which they are capable.
This is why affirmative action has led to more racially diverse admissions but not higher graduation rates. As if it is more acceptable to admit unqualified ethnic minority students to elite schools from which they drop out than to schools at their level from which they graduate.
But after being admitted to elite schools and falling behind (due to racism), they now blame organizational racism for not succeeding. Their anxiety is because they can’t do the work, and the anger is the realization that they were set up to fail.
They are failing to recognize that the problem is that they did not merit admission in the first place, hence the “struggles”.
But if affirmative action IS necessary to get black students into elite schools, it is proving that they are not qualified by merit and that they aren’t equal ... hence the anxiety.
No, it causes Liberalism, which is the same thing...
