Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a series of economic sanctions against Turkey following the downing of Russian figher jet by Turkish forces earlier this week.

A decree published on the Kremlin's website on Saturday came hours after Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan voiced "sadness" over the incident, saying he wished it had not happened.

The Russian jet violated Turkish airspace period, You can get shot down period. This was not the first time that the Russians violated Turkish airspace. The Russian ambassador in Ankara was call in on two successive days prior to the shoot down warning them of dire consequences if they continued to violate Turkish airspace. Here is the Reuter's story written prior to the shoot down.

LOL. It applies to all members without exception. Turkey has been a member of NATO since 1952, longer than Germany. FYI: part of Turkey is in Europe, e.g., Istanbul. Here is Article 5 of the NATO Charter:

Article 5

The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security.

LOL. Yes, so is Obama!

Putin is not fighting ISIS, he's only fighting parts of ISIS who are a threat to Assad. He's doing this at the behest of Iran. Any "HOLY WAR" is purely in your imagination.

If Putin is such a defender of the faith, why is he selling out longtime Christian allies the Armenians, for their Muslim enemies, the Azerbaijanis?

Great article. I quote from it "By taking military action in Syria against moderate groups targets, Russia has escalated the civil war," Carter said.

And there you have the U.S. so-called strategy in a nut-shell. First by supporting parties against Assad, we are escalating a civil war in Syria. In the second place, what moderate groups in Syria? We know the answer to that. None, at least not that are effective and actually not ISIS fronts.

Glad you enjoyed it. From the same article:

NATO held an emergency meeting in Brussels of ambassadors from its 28 member states to respond to what Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg called “unacceptable violations of Turkish airspace” after a Russian jet crossed its frontier with Syria on Saturday.

A Russian warplane again violated Turkish airspace on Sunday, a Turkish foreign ministry official said late on Monday, prompting Ankara to summon Moscow’s ambassador.

It had done the same following Saturday’s violation, and said Russia would be held “responsible for any undesired incident that may occur” if it were repeated.

NATO members “strongly protest” and “condemn” incursions into Turkish and NATO territory, the alliance said after the first incursion was reported.

“Allies also note the extreme danger of such irresponsible behaviour. They call on the Russian Federation to cease and desist, and immediately explain these violations,” NATO said in a statement after the meeting.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said he had been told by Russia that the violation was a “mistake” that would not happen again.

“Turkey’s rules of engagement apply to all planes, be they Syrian, Russian or from elsewhere … Necessary steps would be taken against whoever violates Turkey’s borders, even if it’s a bird,” he said on HaberTurk TV.

The potential confrontation comes at a time when relations between Russia and the West are at their worst since the Cold War, with the United States and European Union having imposed financial sanctions on Moscow over its intervention in Ukraine.

Over the past year, NATO has repeatedly accused Moscow of sending planes to violate the airspace of the alliance’s member countries in Europe.

“Iran is an example of how politics are put aside in order to make a buck.”

Yep. As is Turkey.
