Agreed. Obama didn't need Biden to carry Delaware. Bush didn't need Cheney to carry Wyoming. Bush the Elder didn't need Quayle to carry Indiana, and Reagan didn't need Bush the Elder to carry Texas. Clinton probably benefited from Gore Jr. in Tennessee and the South in general, so that might be an exception.

The last election where having a geographical candidate made a difference was probably in 1960 when Kennedy put Johnson on the ticket to carry Texas. Not much since then.
