Alan Grayson: I'll file suit if 'Canadian' Ted Cruz wins nomination

Rep. Alan Grayson said Wednesday that he plans to file suit if Sen. Ted Cruz, who was born in Canada, wins the Republican presidential nomination. Speaking with liberal Fox News radio host Alan Colmes, Mr. Grayson, a Florida Democrat, called the 2016 Republican presidential lineup "appalling."

"It's resolved itself into this weird reality show. It's not 'The Biggest Loser' that they're choosing, it's 'The Biggest Bigot,'" he said. Mr. Colmes asked if all of the GOP candidates are bigots.

"Well show me one who represents the exception here," Mr. Grayson responded. "In a sense I guess Cruz is not technically that way, because he's technically not even an American."

"Well, his mother was born here," Mr. Colmes replied, "though it's interesting to me that the people who had a problem with Obama's birth certificate don't have a problem with Ted Cruz who literally was born in another country. And he renounced his Canadian citizenry."

Mr. Grayson added, "The Constitution says natural-born Americans, so now we're counting Canadians as natural-born Americans? How does that work? I'm waiting for the moment that he gets the nomination and then I will file that beautiful lawsuit saying that he's unqualified for the job because he's in eligible."

Asked if he's serious about his threat to sue, Mr. Grayson said "Absolutely. Call me crazy but I think the president of America should be an American." "Even the anchor babies actually are born here. He doesn't even meet that qualification," he added.

He won't be the only one. Last year I predicted that Democrats would come out of the woodwork to file such lawsuits. I also pointed out that they don't even have to win them to wreck his election chances.

All they have to do is put doubt in the minds of the American People, and it will heavily damage his election prospects.

Grayson is a fool, but this is deliberate and the lawsuit will be filed, at the behest of the DNC! This is their strategy if Cruz gets the nomination. That will gum up the works and postpone the election or force SCOTUS to rule, a la 2000. It’s called revenge. Since he has revealed their dirty trick, I suggest Cruz and his supporters get Congress to rule other wise, NOW.

Exactly, Congress established in 1790 that children of US citizens born outside the US are considered natural born citizens...there were fears that a foreigner (dare I say a modern-day jihadi refugee) might gain control of the US army and take over the country. This was the intent of the founders (not the jihadi part) and makes complete sense.

While Cruz was born in Canada, his mother was a US citizen. Hence, by birth Cruz is considered a natural born citizen...case closed!

Of course, this won’t stop the Left from trying to litigate and gum up the works.

BTW...Grayson is a sad excuse for a US congressman!

Cruz was born with full citizenship of both the USA and Canada. He ditched his Canadian citizenship and is good to go.

I like Cruz and have worried about this all along. My favorite scenario is: Trump becomes President, who appoints Cruz V.P., then Trump initiates or gets a ruling beneficial to Cruz on his citizenship status. The vague interpretations of what constitutes “natural born” vs. “native born citizens” and in Cruz’ case not even “native born”, finally needs to be spelled out. Then after Trump does his stint, Cruz can run for Prez. and do his stint. Our country NEEDS a change in direction and these two can do it.
