Indeed you did back off when I presented information that rebutted your stupid assertion that a vast amount of people stood around watching a woman being stabbed to death. If I didn’t respond to some rebuttal it was probably because it was so silly it wasn’t worth it. The revisionism was needed in this case because the original article - written by the awful Abe Rosenberg - was so slanted to present the killing as a metaphor for the soullessness and selfishness of modern day life. Tell that to the woman who cradled the dying woman in her arms! Did any one do that for Lee Rigby?

And don’t push my local newspaper at me - did you see today’s headline from it? That paper is a mess.

I can appreciate British culture and theater (it is my profession) without admiring your increasingly stupid “little Englander” posts - even if you are in some Scottish city. Why don’t you return to the comments section of The Guardian where you can sound off about Hershey chocolate, pumpkin pie and fat Americans without getting any pushback?

I didn’t back off, in fact we had a good old fashioned argument over days about the case. Don’t flatter yourself, hen.

BTW, that ‘stupid rebuttal’ is a very good article, part of a new book and re-examination of the case by a credible journalist, onw which btw restores some decency to Mr Rosenberg, who has been traduced by the recent revisionism. I would hope you would read the article.

Perhaps the original media hype was incorrect, but some of us aren’t buying this modern nonsense that people actually, really, honest guv, tried to save that poor girl. And that some of them are really unheralded heroes dontcha know. Like many things, perhaps the truth lies in between. So I commend this writer for looking at both the case, the 1960s media and the modern revisionism of the case. Its a superb book, and I recommend it. Alas, I think you will simply stick to what you cling to.

Your dislike of this case has nothing to do with truth, you don’t like criticism of your city. Had this murder taken place in Chicago, London or LA, you’d never be as defensive as you are. And I get that. You and other NY’ers get defensive about this infamous case. I get that. NY has its very violent past, like most cities, and you just have to accept that. Instead of attacking people with personal insults and words like stupid when anyone brings it up. And instead of embracing revisionist arguments that seek to downplay the acts of people that we would with hindsight rather change for the better.

That people didn’t do enough to save Kitty Genovese in 1964 is fact. And the revisionist argument that has tried to downplay that fact and even try and create heroes of the 38 that night is contrary to the facts and morally shameful.

Lee Rigby?. Yes, if you’d have bothered to follow the case, the two killers allowed women to try and tend Rigby (by the en sadly long dead), any man who tried to stop the killing or approach the body was attacked. I am glad someone tended to Kitty as she died. I just wished that lady and others had shown courage earlier. Sadly, ten years later, the same type of killing would happen in your city, and another young woman was beaten to death, screaming for help for minutes, as a whole apartment block listened, yet did nothing. Not even phone the police. RIP Sandra Zahler.

Little Englander?. Again, silly insults. If you don’t like what I post, fine. But this attempt to characterise me as some of sort of snotty anti-American is nonsense. I do and will criticise America, but I have no problem with the reverse, as long as its genuine and justified. And any criticism of the US, I try to be fair and be issue-specific. Listen, if I REALLY hated America and Americans, I would never spend anytime talking to Americans. BUT I DO genuinely like America and Americans. YES, you make me roll my Limey eyes at times, but you should hear what I say about my own country. And I still love that to the point of death if necessary.

p.s I like the Guardian: soft, strong and thoroughly absorbent.
