Turkey doesn’t have to allow the empty planes to land.

Uh, yeah they do. To impede Russian Citizens from exiting the country would be regarded as an act of war. I don't think the Turks quite want to go there.

yep thats exactly right...they are in effect removing their citizens from harm’s way.

Russians play Chess. Turkey seems to be playing Checkers. Erdogan thinks he has crowned himself "King."

This is a brilliant move by Putin. It lets the Russians know he's going to do something, and it gives him time to come up with various options to retaliate. At the same time it hurts Turkey economically, and the pain may undermine the Erdogan government.

Forgive my Cold-War way of thinking, but if Russia invades Turkey it's bad news for the West.

To start with, Russia would gain seaports on the Turkish coast for Russian bases. The Russian Navy could have considerable presence in the Med.

Planes from Turkish air bases could project power over Northern Africa, Asia, Southern Europe, and the Middle East. The Suez Canal would be about an hour's flight from there.

I don't know how many pipelines pass through Turkey from Europe to the Middle East, but Russia would control all of them.

The loss of Turkey would be a serious blow, so if Russia threatens (which they are doing) NATO would have to respond, with or without Obama.

Couldn’t care less about muslim Turkey. Just as long as we don’t get dragged into it. Every time we’ve asked to use their air space, we’ve had to beg, plead and bow down to their demands.

I’m not sure that NATO would fight for Turkey. It would not at all surprise me if in the next few weeks Turkey is voted out of NATO for their behavior.

Karahani = brothel (use the hole in the wooden wall, please).

We would be obligated by the NATO treaty to defend them against Russia or anyone else invading them.
Turkey has the 2nd largest military in NATO after the US.

I dunno either. You would think the NATO treaty all the nations had to sign would MAKE them fight for a member nation. That's how World Wars start.

OTOH NATO is pretty much helpless without US forces. If Obama reneges, NATO is powerless and Turkey ceases to exist.

Putin is assuming Obama will blink, and as I said, he's probably right.

If Obama reneges,

We are sorry to inform you that the Ministry of Truth has removed the word 'renege' from All usage.

MINITRUE has spoken.

From Wikipedia:

Oda (harem), a room within a harem of the Ottoman Empire

So not a brothel per se, unless you consider a harem to be a brothel limited to a single individual.

Turkey is not friendly to America and is a sick Muslim nation.

Russia is a pest and not worthy of our friendship but at least most of the people still like America.

Both are crap!

Karahani is the Turkish word for whorehouse/brothel, and is definitely not a harem.

Sounds like there won’t be much left of Turkey, once Putin evacuates his fellow countrymen.

Someone has to stop this ISLAMIC MARCH, and it looks like it will be Putin.

>>25 years ago and further back<<

Putin and I are the same age. In that time frame of the “cold war” he was my dedicated enemy.

The worm has certainly turned. I find myself “ROOTIN FOR PUTIN” now, more often than not.

The Turk’s side of this story just doesn’t add up. Why would a clear thinking Russian pilot of a BOMBER take on a FIGHTER? Russian pilots are brave, but not stupid.

And unfortunately for the Turks, the RIO/Navigator lived. You may not believe him, the first casualty of war is truth, but he is alive. Much to the chagrin of the Turks.

There are too many “questions” here, and I think Putin, (I admire him because he understands history and his place in it)is here to lay bare the lies of one impostor in the whitehut.

Whether or not this is good for the country I love, time will tell.

This will play out, but Turkey, after Korea, has been no ‘friend’ to the US. Except maybe for that mudslime in the whitehut.

So, there it is and here we have it.

That makes no sense.
You are assuming that Russia would threaten pipelines to western Europe.

He may be belligerent, but he's not stupid.

I would rather predict that the Turks would destroy the pipelines themselves if they see that they are about to be defeated.

Western Europe has to agree to eject Turkey from Europe, and the sooner the better.

As a Bonus, Hagia Sophia may revert to its original glory.

And former Turkey can thank ISIS and islam.
