Why does your son have to choose between German and American citizenship? My son in law is dual American-French, and older than 18 as are his parents and siblings, all of whom hold dual citizenship. Now his daughter (my granddaughter) will be dual American and French. LOTS of Americans hold dual American and Israeli citizenship.

The only way I see Hillary winning is against Cruz, maybe. She will try to convince many American voters that Cruz is not a natural born citizen and therefore should not be allowed to become president. It will be a powerful argument. But even more persuasive will be pointing out the hypocrisy of conservatives that went after Obama, claiming that he was not born in the USA and then turning around and nominating not born in USA Ted Cruz.

A Cruz nomination also risks getting the courts involved. What happens if the SC rules Cruz is not a NBC? Who takes his place on the ballot? The SC needs to rule on this before the GOP convention.

If that is the source of "Natural Born" then why weren't slaves citizens?

What makes you think they weren't?

I should bother to answer such a stupid question? Because holding citizens would be illegal.

Why did we have to pass a law (the 14th amendment) if that was already the law?

Because of the Scott v. Sandford ruling.

To argue that the 14th was necessary to repeal Scott v. Sandford is to argue that the decision was legitimate in the first place.

An Amendment is only needed to change things when the law needs to be changed.

This gratuitous verbal abuse ("trash boy," "moron") is most unlike cripplecreek, whose posts generally display at least a modicum of civility. He is apparently having a bad day.

Here's to hoping that he soon returns to his usual jovial self.

Regards,

Based on what?

You know what? Let's forget about it. You go play with the other posters and I'll just get my amusement by reading your answers to them.

Have a happy Thanksgiving.

I am of the opinion that the President of the United States should be born on American soil to two American citizens.

Obviously, I am in a minority.

I think it is a very sad commentary on our country and our citizens that we actively support by legal arguments and the meaning of what “is” is, someone who was born in a foreign country (yes, Canada is a foreign country) of only one American citizen, and who was a citizen of said foreign country until a couple of years ago.

Using the argument of Obama is really stretching. I don’t think he was/is eligible by virtue of the fact that his father was not an American no matter where he was born.

I also don’t think Jindal and Rubio are eligible by virtue of the fact that they are anchor babies.

Of course, we could continue this road until we end up with a president who is the son of the Chinese president, born here on vacation.

I am horrified that “conservatives” think this is all okay because it’s their guy. Same logic the Democrats used when it was their guy.

There is another thread that popped up later about what I said above at post #4. Lo and behold kooky Alan Grayson is salivating to sue Cruz.

Now Breitbart has reported the exchange of Colmes and Grayson:

When Ted Cruz first came to my attention as a potential US Senator from Texas, I read his resume and thought "Hallelujah! Now we put the Natural Born Citizenship argument to bed once and for all!" And it looks like I was right and wrong at the same time.

I had high hopes that Ted Cruz would help to restore the strict exclusive, pure definitions to things like Natural Born Citizenship, it's a fetus, not "undifferentiated tissue mass" and marriage as being one man, one woman, to name a few.

But this is a world under the last ditch spiritual assault by Satan himself, who is Vanity. Egos are a very malleable things and easily filled beyond capacity if you know which buttons to push and he has had millennium of practice.

Integrity in all things is absolutely NOT welcome here in today's world. We pick and choose. We are "the ones we've been waiting for" and we write our own rules and make our own definitions.

After all, definitions are like anything else in this world and, with the appropriate rationale, even the meaning of "is" can be whatever you want it to be.

Try this on for size:

The Constitution is a living, breathing document, the Founding Fathers are dead, racist, white people and only a Pure American Born And Bred being eligible to be POTUS is unfair, discriminatory, nationalistic, racist and old fashioned.
Whatever Ted Cruz may be, and clearly he's one of the best at thinking and speaking on his feet, Ted's ego is young and still easy and he wants to be president!

To the Brit who told me the Constitution wouldn't protect US and we would succumb the same as Britain had, you were right and I was wrong.

The Constitution doesn't stand a chance...but only on this one little thing, of course.

I predicted this would happen perhaps a year or so ago.

My son was born at an Air Force hospital in Okinawa. He had dual Japanese and US citizenship until he turned 18 and he chose US citizenship.

You are quite welcome. The marxist usurper in the White Hut is the living breathing embodiment and personification of the reason the framers put Article II sec, I clause 5 in the constitution, to protect the executive branch and we the people from this depraved and corrupt lying sociopath and the threat from his alien belief system.

Now that such a threat has been made manifest, all the smarty-pants appeasers want to tell us how its only a technicality, to be overlooked when when convenient, either because of cowardice or expediency.

I cant think of a better way to COMPLETELY lose the constitutional republic.
