NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A set of controversial subway ads featuring what appear to be Nazi symbols has been removed, following a livid response ...

The ads for "The Man in the High Castle," which are running on the 42nd Street Shuttle or S Train, feature what look like Japanese Rising Sun flags and Nazi imperial eagles. The show, based on the 1962 Philip K. Dick novel of the same title, imagines an alternate history where the Axis powers win World War II ...

We have become a nation of the offended.

So very true. Consider a subway ad featuring a McDonald's hamburger. That's sure to offend a militant vegetarian, and any member of PETA.

The time will come - and sooner rather than later - when McDonald's will no longer be able to post such ads.

My wife eventually insisted on it being removed from the library as she was afraid people would think we were Nazis.

People you invite into your home wouldn't know better than to assume that you were Nazis?!

Regards,

Just as a point of interest, the swastika is also part of the Hindu or Buddhist belief in India. They still use it today to bless new car purchases at the dealers. When the customer is done buying the car, they go outside and bless the car by performing a little ceremony, which includes painting the swastika on the front of the car.

Evidently, it is symbol that represents a blessing for the removal of obstacles...

the swastika on the cover gives pause to whoever sees the book

Yes and just think of the flutters given your intimates by the coarse and distasteful images of Dick!

I had the same book and completely understand. Removing the dust cover didn't help because it was on the spine too. Turning it around only brought more attention to it. My wife eventually insisted on it being removed from the library as she was afraid people would think we were Nazis.

Good Grief. When I was young, my uncle and aunt had one of Shirer's books in their library. Yes, there was a swastika visible on the spine, but I suspect that the title (The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich) was ample explanation. The book now rests on my shelf, where it has never raised an eyebrow.

I have cast scale models of a FW-190/A5 and a Me-109E beautifully hand-painted complete with swastikas on the vertical fins. That’s how they looked in WWII.

I also have a signed print of a Me-109F painted in its original color scheme complete with the swastika on its vertical fin. That’s how it looked in 1943. The man who flew the 109 in WWII, Lt. Franz Stigler of Luftwaffe JG-27, signed my print. He shot down 28 Allied aircraft in WWII and was himself shot down 11 times.

Not only was Stigler not a Nazi, he was a kind and decent man. He was merely a soldier answering the call of his country and who performed his duty as he was sworn to do. This “call of duty” is a quality that’s lost on modern, shit-for-brains Leftist-Liberals.

But if owning books, models, memorabilia, etc., that contain swastikas or Confederate flags on them makes one a “Nazi” or a “racist” then does displaying the Islamic Crescent make one a “terrorist” as well?

Slavery used to be legal in the United States. Does flying Old Glory make one a supporter of slavery too? Why is it that flying the Soviet, Red Chinese, or Imperial Japanese flags, murderers of billions all, not engender the same negative reaction?

This being frightened of symbols, flags, etc. is ignorant, childish, and completely goes against the spirit of a Free Society. It’s cowardly bulls*** and needs to stop.

I thought it was Subway the food place too at first! Holy hell, they’d need a better PR director - their last spokesman said their turkey made him crave sex with four year old boys and girls. Now they are using Nazi symbols? They’re doing it wrong.

Swastika was also very prevalent in several America Native American culture too, including the Navajo. It is present in a lot of their pottery, clothes, etc. I understand that is a symbol of luck.

Guess the PC police needs to ban those too. /s

And in another 50 years any resemblence of the St. Andrews Cross (including the Scottish Flag) will be demonized due to its similarity to the Confederate Battle Flag.

But I don’t want to live in a rubber room till the Jihadis get me. So I will just remain cantankerous and well armed and see who survives in the end. Don’t think it will go well for the perpetual bed wetters, nature eats bunnies.

When I was younger, a friend's father noticed my copy of Fatherland by Richard Harris and reacted in in a similar fashion to the cover until I explained it was an alternate history novel.
