The next shoe will probably be that it isn’t clear that the plane even strayed into Turkish airspace. The main thing, though, is that the Turks sure showed them Ruskkies. Just ask the Cold War obsessed Freepers.

I believe at least one of the Turkish pilots figured the Russian was a sitting duck and wanted the kill.

The wreckage landed in Syria because the pilots were killed by ‘moderate rebels.’

Turkey is backing a pro-ISIS group, as is the U.S.

Russia showed up to spoil the party and actually win the war against ISIS.

The U.S. and Turkey weren’t happy about it.

Will be interesting to see if Putin attacks Turkey to retaliate.

Obama seems more than willing to fight for Muslim countries and on the side of the enemies of ISIS.

Should be telling us something...

But I thought Odunga said "Turkey has a right to defend their airspace".. AFTER THE AIRCRAFT HAS LEFT THAT AIRSPACE???

Looks like Odunga prematurely blew his wad AGAIN.

"Russia acted stupidly" before "Turkey acted stupidly"

correction: Obama seems willing to fight...on the side of FRIENDS of ISIS (such as Turkey).

Who controls the flow of oil from Russia to the west? Without selling oil to the west, how does Russia economy survive?

Exactly correct. And one of the reported questions to Turkey today at that NATO meeting was "why didn't you just escort the Russian plane OUT of your airspace?"

Apparently the order to shoot down the offending aircraft was issued by Erdogan himself.

I was not that shocked to see Obama defended Turkey. He always defends the Muslims. Turkey shooting down the Russian plane on the way to Syria to bomb it says a lot about Turkey.

Kick ‘em outta Nato and bomb the hell outta Turkey.

And has it occurred to anyone Obama might be letting a war start so he can stay in office? Is this offbase?

Turkey has some ‘splainin to do and should suffer the consequences for this. Turkey might be this traitorous administrations friend, but not of America. But, on the other hand, what is Russia doing bombing the Kurd and Turkman rebels up north. They are not IS fanatics.

Someone from NATO asked why did they not just escort them out. Obviously they wanted an incident. Putin knows he has the right here and unlike our dope leader he will not over play his hand. He will wait for retribution at the best time on his schedule. What that will be and when is just any guess.

The next shoe will probably be that it isn't clear that the plane even strayed into Turkish airspace.

It actually depends on who you ask. The map in post #2 (thanks, McGruff) shows that the incident happened over Turkey's Hatay Province. Hatay Province was annexed by Turkey in 1939. Before that the province was aligned with Syria.

The Syrians have never recognized the Turkish annexation of the region. Below is taken from the Wikipedia article on the province:

Syrians hold the view that this land was illegally ceded to Turkey by France, the mandatory occupying power of Syria in the late 1930s. Syria still considers it an integral part of its own territory...Official Syrian maps still show Hatay as part of Syria.
