Putin: Downing Of Russian Jet Over Syria Stab In The Back By Terrorist Accomplices
Russia Today, Moscow ^ | November 24, 2015

Turkey backstabbed Russia by downing the Russian warplane and acted as accomplices of the terrorists, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

The plane was hit by a Turkish warplane as it was traveling 1 km away from the Turkish border, Putin said. The plane posed no threat to Turkish national security, he stressed.

Putin said the plane was targeting terrorist targets in the Latakia province of Syria, many of whom came from Russia.

Russia noticed of the flow of oil from Syrian territory under the control of terrorists to Turkey, Putin said.

Apparently, IS now not only receives revenue from the smuggling of oil, but also has the protection of a nation's military, Putin said. This may explain why the terrorist group is so bold in taking acts of terrorism across the world, the added.

The incident will have grave consequences for Russia's relations with Turkey, Putin warned.

The fact that Turkey did not try to contact Russia in the wake of the incident and rushed to call a NATO meeting instead is worrisome, Putin said. It appears that Turkey want NATO to serve the interests of IS, he added.

Whatever happened to escorting the plane out of your territory (if the Russian plane actually was in Turkish airspace)

Turkey should have been kicked out of NATO when they refused the U.S. access to move equipment during the second gulf war

that last paragraph has a lot of heavy implications given 0's military actions.

Thank you for remembering that bit of Turkish treachery.

I remember that and never considered them a friend after that. And I sure don't like them killing the Kurds.

IIRC, we had to come through Jordan.

I agree. It wouldn’t take much for Putin to put Turkey back in the 18th century. Take out a little infrastructure, and the Turks will rediscover the delights of preindustrial living.

The only reason this incident will NOT result in WW III is that I am fully confident that when push comes to shove, Barack Obama will NOT live up to our treaty obligations to NATO.

Ultimately how the Israelis will deal with Iran.

That might work in the Aleutians or the Kamchatka Peninsula where you can escort the aircraft out to international waters, but I don’t think that’s a practical approach in an active combat area.

This is the worst kept secret in the region, that IS funding comes from hauling oil to Turkey, where it goes to the world market. Doubtless, there is plenty of meat on the bone every step of the way, so someone in Turkey is making millions, too, off of this oil trade.

He was even madder than this when the Soviet Union collapsed and when the US supplied Stinger missiles to the Afghan rebels. Boy, was he mad. He could have been a KGB General if not for Reagan, Thatcher, the Poles, and Pope John Paul II.

No, they wouldn’t. Russia and France have different agendas. And Russia has violated Turkeys and many other nations air space and maritime waters with arrogant disregard for the consequences.

Acts like this never happen in a vacuum. Is it possible Turkey was responding to how Russia has conducted its raids? Wasn’t there something about Russia’s first attacks targeting rebels rather than ISIS? Were those rebels backed by Turkey?

I put more trust in Putin to not turn this into WW 3 than in obama

Erdogan is nut job, shooting down a Russian plane and then running to hide behind NATO.... Ask 30 million Kurds who is a bigger despot, Bashar Assad Or Erdogan

Turkish jets go into Syria and Iraq regularly to attack the Kurds
Maybe it won't be so easy for them to do so from now on
