If the Russian aircraft had, indeed, violated Turkey's airspace, then it's hard to blame Turkey for shooting it down.

Yeah looking at the maps it does look like the Russian pilot made a major error.

Russia and USSR are not the same thing. Violating airspace with no hostile intent is hardly a reason for being shot down, unless you approve of Breshnev’s shooting down of KAL 007
