Of America’s Founding Fathers, Ben Carson is most moved by Thomas Jefferson, partly because of the way he “tried to craft our Constitution,†the retired neurosurgeon said this weekend. In a Sunday interview on C-SPAN as part of its “Road to the White House†series, Carson said he was “impressed by a lot of them,†referring to the Founding Fathers.

Carson is awesome, and he gets the big picture issues (at least many of them). He just is not ready for this stage. If he wants to win, he needs to stop talking so much and get narrowly focused on key points. He’s just opening himself up to so many attacks. For no reason.
I hope he’s haunted by the ghost of Wee Jemmy.

Jefferson certainly influenced the drafting of the Constitution and if that’s what Carson means then that’s not inaccurate.
Also, keep in mind the source of this ‘news’: Politico is not our friend.
There they go again. Another hit piece that lies about what Carson says, in the title.
Jefferson was ambassador to France at the time.
He was trying to keep his head during the French Revolution.
Meanwhile, I believe it was James Madison that penned much of the Constitution, albeit not in a vacuum.
Meanwhile, the communists in Big Media spin, dissemble, obfuscate, and outright lie about 0bama, Klinton, Sanders, and the rest of the demonicrat party.
He was in Paris serving as minister to France.
When do the Democrat idiots get their history test. Obama doesn’t seem to know the day of the week. Yet, he is the smartest man alive.
Prior to today, of all political friends and acquaintances, I knew of NO (0) Carson supporters.
I now can claim I know one (1), from an email this morning.
Given this anecdotal evidence over the past year or two, I can state there is no groundswell for Carson whatsoever.
The guy may have tripped up discerning the Declaration versus the Constitution, but in any case, he is no Constitutional Scholar, of which there is ONLY 1, IMHO, in the race. By a mile, from his nearest competitor.
I’ll give Carson one consolation prize... of the other candidates, he at least mentions the Constitution. Occasionally.
Did Thomas Jefferson write the Constitution? No, he was actually a supporter of the smaller government structure originally proposed in the Articles of Confederation and did not want its revision to mean a stronger, more centralized union.
If Thomas Jefferson wrote the Constitution, he would have preferred leaving many of the enumerated powers in the hands of state governments and may have included checks and balances similar to those he envisioned when he drafted the Virginia Constitution.
However, we can say that he had INFLUENCE on those who help craft the contitution.
Without the influence of Thomas Jefferson, Bill of Rights mainstays such as the right to bear arms and religious freedom may not have held up so strongly.
Although someone like James Madison might be considered father of the Constitution, Thomas Jefferson would ascend to the presidency on principles that advocated for restraint of federal powers and a return to the the agrarian democracy he envisioned.

Ok that is just too screwed up for a candidate to make.
Although a common mix-up, it doesn’t look good.
From what I understand, Madison himself didn’t even want Jefferson’s input on it, and kept him in the dark about it.
How do we compare this error with Obama’s “I’ve now been in 57 states-I think one left to go.”?
Here’a another: During a trip to London’s Westminster Abbey, President Obama signed the guest book and dated it 24 May 2008. Oops. It was 2011. (Maybe he was wistfully dreaming about his 2008 election campaign at the time.)
Not only does Obama not know how many states there are, he also doesn’t know where they are. During the 2008 primary campaign, he explained why he was trailing Hillary Clinton in Kentucky: “Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it’s not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle.”
Obama’s home state of Illinois, and not Arkansas, shares a border with Kentucky.
In April 2009, on one of his many foreign trips, President Obama mused, “I don’t know what the term is in Austrian” for “wheeling and dealing.” Oops, Mr. President. There is no Austrian language.
I don’t dispute that. But it’s also indisputable that Jefferson had a significant influence on the drafting of the Constitution.
