RIGHT-WING NUTS RIP CARDINAL WUERL [Bill Donohue, Catholic League, endorses mortal sin.]
Catholic League ^ | 20 Nov 2015 | Bill Donohue

The crazies on the Catholic right have set their sights on Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington. Why? Because he is close to Pope Francis, and they hate the pope. The attacks are coming from The Church Militant, a loose gang of angry right-wingers who specialize in character assassination, and American Spectator hater George Neumayr.

Three recent hit pieces by Church Militant author Christine Niles set the agenda. She says “today’s archbishop of Washington owns a penthouse in a complex valued at $43 million.” That is a lie. He owns not a centimeter of his third-floor “penthouse,” an apartment that sits atop Our Lady Queen of the Americas parish. Like bishops all over the world, he resides in a spot that was specifically designed for the local Ordinary. There is nothing scandalous about this Church patrimony. Church Militant head Michael Voris says his unidentified sources claim that when Wuerl was the Bishop of Pittsburgh his gay-friendly approach earned him the nickname “Donna the Girl.” I taught at a Pittsburgh Catholic college during Wuerl’s years and never once did I hear anyone tag him as such. Voris also says that Wuerl stole a “Catechism work composed by Fr. John Hardon by simply putting his name to it.” That’s another lie. I guess Wuerl was channeling Hardon when he gave his TV series of lectures on the subject.

Neumayr is so far gone that he accuses Wuerl of being a Communist because someone spotted a copy of Mao’s Little Red Book in his office in the 1970s. That would make me Chairman of the Politburo: I have a copy of Das Kapital in my office right now.

These crazies are mad at Wuerl because he doesn’t believe in using the Eucharist as a weapon to smack liberal Catholic politicians. Wuerl has said that the refusal of Holy Communion “should be made only after clear efforts to persuade and convince the person that their actions are wrong and bear moral consequences.” Exactly. Wuerl is a great gift to the Catholic Church. These critics are as ignorant as they are malicious.

You are, of course, aware that these are the precise reasons the Church has always required Denial of Communion to persons living publicly in a state of adultery.

So when Rudy Giuliani received communion at a mass celebrated by Pope Benedict, did His Holiness publicly stumble?

No, because Benedict never SAID that pro-aborts may receive Communion. In fact, he stated the opposite, more than once.

Did Benedict know Giuliani by sight? Possibly, but not certainly.

Did Giuliani receive from the Pope? Probably not. Benedict usually did NOT distribute Communion at his Masses.

Giuliani already had an understanding with Cardinal Egan that he would not receive Communion, based on the fact that Giuliani was living with either a shack-up or a second wife—I don’t remember which, and it doesn’t matter.

Nice try. But no, the situation you cite is nothing like Donohue’s. Donohue has given formal, conscious approval to the mortal sin of giving Communion to pro-aborts.

Notice how Donohue tries to blur the issue by referring, not to “pro-abortion” politicians, but “liberal” politicians—implying that Voris and other “right-wing nuts” think people should be denied Communion for being LIBERALS.

Donohue uses the same type of slippery language liberals use to try to get conservatives to stop promoting the Constitution. Their characterization of enforcing Cannon law “as a weapon” because it disadvantages Donohue’s friends is the same as liberals arguing that the Constitution should not be enforced because it disadvantages potential Democrat voters.

Donohue shades everything.

Notice that he claims Wuerl doesn’t “own” the penthouse. I don’t recall whether Christine Niles said he owns it. But it’s irrelevant. The point is that he lives in it.

And Neumayr cited a lot more facts about Wuerl’s longtime leftism than the mere fact that he once owned a copy of the Little Red Book. The rampant Marxism in the Archdiocese of Washington, for instance.

Notice that Donohue never gets around to the priest with the earring.

And notice how Donohue refers to “liberal politicians” rather than pro-abortion politicians—implying that Voris, Niles, Neumayr, and other “right-wing nuts” think that Communion should be denied to people for being “liberals.”

And the point would be?

Red Whirly Bird?

Well, he's a Cardinal (a red bird) and his name is Wuerl (whirl) and he's flying all over TV acting like a "red diaper doper baby".

Red Whirly Bird.

I remember Wuerl’s catechetical tapes. Donohue claims that the fact that Wuerl made videos based on the catechism proves that Wuerl didn’t steal the catechism from Fr. John Hardon. Uh. Voris never said that Wuerl never READ the catechism after stealing it.

I remember those tapes. In the first few minutes of episode one, Wuerl said, “God reveals Godself to us.”

Ugh! LESBONICS! (So-called “inclusive language.”)

I popped out the tape, and used the whole set to record “The Simpsons” over the next several years.

Gotcha now…I was thinking of those red beanie hats with the whirly birds on top.
I didn’t make the connection with the Cardinal’s name.
Sorry.
Making my pies on Wednesday…do I have to do whipped cream Thurs AM?

No, but I don’t think the cream stays whipped as long when you put the amaretto in it.

I usually put some amaretto in the pie filling too. Don’t remember if I mentioned that in the recipe.

John Hardon

Short for "Johnson".

Wuerl was channeling Hardon when he gave his TV series of lectures on the subject.

Sounds pretty queer to me.

There have been no more than five or six priests involved in pedophilia in the last fifty years.

The rate of priests involved in sexual abuse of a minor (about 4% over the last fifty years) is less than among teachers and the clergy of other denominations.

There is no sense in which “pedophilia” is a peculiarly “Catholic” problem.
