John Bel Edwards defeats David Vitter in Louisiana governor race
Gulf Live ^ | 11/22/15

Democrat John Bel Edwards won the runoff election for Louisiana governor Saturday, defeating the once-heavy favorite, Republican David Vitter, and handing the Democrats their first statewide victory since 2008.

Edwards, a state lawmaker, will take over the office from term-limited Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal in January.

Voters' rejection of Vitter was a stunning turn of events for the U.S. senator, who has been a political powerhouse in the state for years and started his campaign nearly two years ago as the race's front-runner.

I’m surprised that a former central committee member is as frank as you our. What was your impression of Neil Riser while on the committee?

Does he go by “John Bel Edwards” in an attempt to divert attention from his liberalism by evoking long Southern memories of John Bell Hood?

I wonder though if Vitter had accented opposition to Edwards prior to the primary if it would have made a differene. Pre-primary, Vitter ran tough ads against Angelle and Dardenne and never mentioned Edwards. Then it was too late.

Vitter’s baggage had not come out in 2004; wasn’t it 2007?

Riser always voted with us conservatives on the CC. I voted for him when he ran for Congress in 2014. Not a “perfect” candidate, nor is his voting record in the State Senate spotless. But I can’t recall ever knowing of a politician that was perfect.

I take that back. I ran for the Ruston City Council in 1982. Only time I was able to vote for someone who wasn’t the “lesser of two evils.”

The ONLY time.

Meant to type "not too frequently", not that it matters now

A new Orleans paper wrote about it in 2002, IIRC.

Interesting: I believe I saw that Riser’s grandfather was once a Ruston City Council member.

I don’t know. Is “Bel” a middle name or is the last name “Bel Edwards”? I think it’s a middle name here. He had to use it to distinguish from John F. Kerry’s John Edwards.

Jindal’s high negatives cost Vitter.

No. Vitter cost Vitter.

Well, he's a RAT, so he's probably queer. It's actually "Belle".

Good point, everyone thought Vitter had survived the prostitution scandal, but it was there all along for one daring enough to use it. Vitter must have thought it was over too and that he could coast to the governorship; yet he was his party’s only statewide candidate to lose. He ignored Edwards in the primary; he counted his eggs before they hatched.

I’m sorry, conspiracy theories don’t really interest me. Thanks, though.

Proves, once again, only RATs can have “baggage” and win.
This Belle character is a RAT and that’s all that we need to know.
He is a obongo boot licker and an islamist sympathizer.

voter fraud just doesn't exist on any significant level, but if we pretend that it does we don't have to face up to our mistakes.

It was no “conspiracy.” It was done out in the open with no secrecy at all.

Or maybe smart enough to realize that if you keep electing people you can’t trust, you continue having problems.

The issue here is as usual, the GOP putting up candidates people don’t want and won’t vote for. If Vitter was remotely more trustworthy than a Democrat, it stands to reason he wouldn’t be struggling/losing against and to a Democrat. And considering the damage the Dems and GOP have dine, he obviously must have been pretty pathetic a candidate with an even more pathetic party behind him to lose.
