Elliott puts loss on coaches, says he's going pro (What a cry baby)

Star running back Ezekiel Elliott has apparently played his final home game for No. 3 Ohio State, and he wasn't pleased with the way it went down.

After starting the week in the hospital with a previously undisclosed infection in his leg, the junior returned to the lineup Saturday afternoon, declared himself fully fit and then ripped the play calling in a 17-14 upset loss to No. 9 Michigan State at the Horseshoe.

"How we lost, I just feel like we weren't put in the right opportunity to win this game, we weren't put in the right situations to win this game," Elliott said. "I don't think Michigan State was better than us. They weren't. We didn't execute."

Elliott, a Heisman Trophy candidate, carried the ball just 12 times despite Ohio State struggling mightily to gain any traction with its passing attack in wet, cold, windy conditions as the Buckeyes lost their first regular-season Big Ten game ever under coach Urban Meyer.

I bet there are a lot teams looking for young players that believe they are smarter than the coaching staff.

Keenan Reynolds? USNA? Great player in an average conference. NCAA Rushing record?

Didn't watch the Navy game but Reynolds just doesn't have any "hype" going into the Heisman voting. I really think it will be Henry of Alabama.

But if Navy wins out, they'll be in one of the six "premiere" bowls as the representative of the non-power 5 conferences.

That's quite an accomplishment considering they will beat out Memphis, Houston, Temple, etc.

And my Boise State (which reek this year)!

Not to mention if any of the commenters here had bothered to read the article, they’d see Meyer himself said the same thing as Elliott did about the play calling, namely:

“Meyer pointed the finger at himself for the conservative, unbalanced play calling and vowed to “get some things fixed” before another huge matchup next weekend with rival Michigan.

“No, I was not content,” Meyer said. “I call a lot of plays anyways. So finger will be pointed right here. And I have to do better. We didn’t — it was very conservative.””

I would tend to agree with Mr. Elliot. Those on this thread denigrating him have no idea what they are talking about, IMO.

I’ve been following this team for a very long time, and the play calling in tonight’s game was pathetic, and I predicted at the beginning of this season that OSU would not be able to repeat as National Champions due to the fact that their previous Offensive Coordinator departed for another team. Unfortunately, I was absolutely correct.

The play calling in the game today for OSU was laughable and reflected the poor play calling all season long from a very one dimensional Offensive Coordinator that OSU decided to stick with.

It was disheartening to see one QB run after another this season (for me, an OSU fan), and unbelievably predictable for any defensive coordinator facing OSU, and tonight was particularly atrocious from a play calling standpoint. At one point, OSU ran 3 consecutive QB runs and went three and out on that series, and the fans rightfully scorned the team for such a pitiful play selection. They HAD a very good RB in Mr. Elliot and decided that he was not the answer in this game.

If Urban Meyer wants to be a force next year, he absolutely MUST replace his offensive coordinator, IMO.

I’m sure that some NFL team will draft him and then have to decide whether to use him as a running back or an offensive coordinator.

Ha, he’s not in the SEC. The NFL is not interested in anything he has to say.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! Crazy upset styled game tonight, that’s for sure!

Troubles for our quarterback, Mixon and Pironn, heck I can’t spell his name. Need to be healed, better, by next Saturday, and on fire, to take down OSU at OSU.

BOOMER!

OSU in 2015 reminds me of OSU in 1969 in oh so many ways.# 1 in 1968 and Consensus #1 all year in 1969 and had to play only 9 games and no bowl. A lock for the title. Until Michigan came in and exposed their weakness. They had great athletes that returned from that ‘68 championship team too, just like this year,

Can you see him talking trash about Beilichek or Tom Coughlin? He would be sitting down so fast his head would spin.

I agree with him. He only got the ball 12 times.

OSU won the Rose Bowl on New Years Day, 1969. One of the most exciting football game ever (to OSU fans anyway). I don’t remember the team that fall, but the previous year’s team was SPECTACULAR!

Somewhat similar, but they were “exposed” all year long this year, with one of the primary weaknesses being their dependency upon a running QB. Very one dimensional offensive schemes doomed them once they came up against an equally talented team, and the result was expected from my point of view. However, this game was absolutely strange by way of not running the ball with a very talented player who has more or less carried the team on his back most of the season.

The fans in the stadium displayed their disgust with the poor play calling on a couple of occasions, and that's something rarely seen in the Horseshoe. A new offensive coordinator is a must for this team next season. If Meyer sticks with the status quo, he will start having a truly difficult time recruiting top talent, IMO.

I remember that ‘68 team as being special, running the season undefeated. They had a lock for two in a row until Michigan showed up.

Not likely, the NFL is filled with many entitled people. I can garuntee if he was their premiere back he wouldn’t sit a single down. Again this is about speaking truth. And as one poster replied earlier it was the same truth a Urban already spoke. I’d have been ticked as well if I knew my carries would have beaten the team. Elliot knows it, Urban knows it, as well as the entirety of Buckeye nation knows it.

There's more than just the above excerpt, sounds like Elliott has a bad case of the "I's"

"I was lobbying to Coach Meyer all game. I think I do deserve more than [12] carries. I think I really do.

"Honestly, I can't speak for the play calling. I don't know what was going on. I don't know what they were seeing. But honestly, it didn't work out. It wasn't working. ... Ive got to make the most of my time left..."

I am not arguing with you. Not are probably right.

I just have to laugh the guy on the pats least year who ran for four touchdowns again Indy, and was late to practice the next week. For the rest of the season he played four downs. Even I thought that was a bit harsh.

If he is THAT good, I hope he ends up in the nFC west, so we hardly have to see him.
