Donald Trump unleashes raging 12-tweet barrage, threatens lawsuit at 'irrelevant' rival

Politico reported earlier in the evening that a pro-Kasich super PAC was planning to unload $2.5 million or more to take down Trump, the Republican front-runner, in New Hampshire.

This prompted a dozen-tweet barrage by Trump against Kasich, ripping the PAC's attack as "pathetic" and calling the governor a "dud" over the report, among many other things.

*snip*

The super PAC, New Day for America, published a letter from The Trump Organization's lawyer warning that Trump would promptly seek "legal action" against the committee if its ads lied about Trump.

"It has come to my attention that you plan on producing and disseminating certain radio, television, and newspaper advertisements directly and personally attacking my client," Trump's lawyer, Alan Garten, wrote in the letter, which was also addressed to the Kasich campaign.

"Please be advised that in the event your ads contain any false, misleading, defamatory or otherwise tortious statements or representations concerning Mr. Trump's business or his brand, we will not hesitate to seek immediate legal action," it continued.

The letter concluded: "Please be guided accordingly."

The letter was similar in nature to a September cease-in-desist letter The Trump Organization sent to a conservative group, the Club for Growth, that ran attack ads against Trump in Iowa. Some eyebrows were raised because the letter was sent from Trump's corporation rather than from his campaign.

He threatened to sue Club for Growth over these ads below.

For what, I don’t know,

...

Since you brought it up, please find out the facts and post them.

Are you whining again libby? Trump isn’t going to roll over and die. He’s a fighter. It’s that simple. I understand it bothers you that your opponent isn’t going to just roll over and play dead, but that’s the way it is. That’s why he’s a winner, and why you’re candidates are losers.

The parade of tweets was directed at the PAC behind Kasich that was threatening ads to bring Trump down.

The lie that the Club for Growth made was that they said he supported things in THIS campaign that he suggested or mentioned many years ago when he was not even running for office.

That's libelous and tortious.

They said Donald Trump supported these policies and one of the ads had Trumo advocating for government run health care in a 2015 interview. That is not libel and it’s not off limits to question a candidate on past statements.

Trump is fighting back. In the GOPE world if you are their target, you are just suppose to sit back and take their sleazy political tactics.

Not everything in the ads has to be libelous for there to be a libel committed in the ad.

The ad said he supported raising taxes. That is a lie.

I get it he hired lawyers and they wrote a letter to CFG to stop the ads, anyone who has enough money can do this.

The questions I have is:

I would have to say Trump’s lawyer has every right to do what he did...

He is the Trump Organization Attorney and this is his job to make sure that any discredited attacks are being brought out and to protect the Organization...

I think the Trump Organization is a high standard Company and if it wasn’t it wouldn’t be World known and worth as much in assets as it is....

The questions I have is:

Does this lawsuit have a basis and can it hold up in court?
If the suit does hold up in court, then how come Trump hasn’t gone forward with actions to take CFG to court?

CFG has continued to run these ads, obviously they see through Trump’s intimidation tactics and they probably consulted their lawyers about what the risk would be to run these ads after the cease and desist. So, if there isn’t a lawsuit being filed by Trump over these ads, seeing how CFG has continued to run them despite the legal threats of Trump, does that mean he was full of hot air or that he doesn’t want to go through with the suit because he knows he has no case?

...

Looks like you’re going to be busy. Please get back to us when you have the facts.

Rolling over and dying in a battle is not a virtue.

Conservatives have been accepting smears and lies from Demonrats and their uni-party pals in the GOP forever and it gets us no where. Accepting voter fraud during elections is not a virtue either.

I could be also, not only the Club for Growth, but we all know Hillary is a dirty player and this could be for her notice as well....

Another thing I wonder about...Trump is turning or has done his Company to his children and family....has Hillary done that or is going to remove herself from the Clinton Foundation?

What are the laws on this while running for a candidate in the National election?

Are you posting that with a straight face?

Except for when I'm reading your responses, yes.

All you’re doing is rehashing the Romney/moderate/liberal argument...we need the sacred mushy middle and the Democrats (a fallacy), so let’s run one.

It would be hard not to realize what your present grasp of reality is, but I'll refrain from being too direct with regard to it.

"Let's run one?"  Am I to believe you think Trump is a Democrat?  If that's what you think, you've truly gone round the bend.

Donald Trump is not Romney.  He's not even close to Romney.  When you address the two it casts a shadow over you, not Trump.

Romney wanted to implement RomneyCare nationwide to replace Obamacare.  Trump wants to return it to the private sector.

Trump:

Deport illegal aliens  (Romney? No)
Build a wall  (Romney?  No)
Address Planned Parenthood funding
Replace Obamacare with a private sector solution  (Romney?  No)
Stop big government deficit spending  (Romney?  Doub it)
Pay down the national debt  (Romney?  Not addressed)
Lower taxes across the board  (Romney?  Doubt it)
Put people back to work  (Romney?  Didn't hawk it.  Didn't have a plan)
Build up our military  (Romney?  No)
Get Veterans the care they deserve  (Romney?  No)
Do away with the Department of Education  (Romney?  No)
Severely reign in the EPA and other government agencies  (Romney?  No)
Review entitlements  (Romney?  No)
Take action to make sure Islamic adherents don't harm our nation  (Romney?  No)

This was your take on Romney?  Why the similarities are amazing...  LOL

Straight face?

Romney won the independent vote. How’d that work out?

I mention that Democrats,  Independents, Moderate Republicans, and some Conservative who think Cruz can't win the nominaton who will vote for Trump, and this was your big comeback?  Straight face?

If we want to win, we need to turn out the base. It’s simple truth. When we run moderates or liberals, we lose. Another simple fact. Demonstrable by history, but some of us just never absorb it. We keep running to the “electable” (read: sure loser in the general) guy.

This reaches the level of avoidance on two different qualifiers.  One, Trump is pushing Reagan's platform.  He's not a Leftist.  Two, who decides who we run?
Democrats,  Independents, & Moderate Republicans.

Somewhere out there in your fantasy land, you think "our base" outnumbers those entities.  True Conservatives are but a subset of the Republican party.  They can't even dictate what the party does, let alone best Democrats and Independents who combine with them to select our nominees.  What is so hard for you to understand there?  It is reality.

Trump's style has attracted broad support.  He's pulling across party, gender, and racial lines.  Republicans generally pull around 5 to 10% of the Hispanic and Black vote.  Trump is drawing 25%?

I will never support a liberal.

Impressive.  Straight face?  Nobody here has asked you to vote for a Liberal unless you think Ronald Reagan was a Liberal.

I will only support conservative candidates...and by that I mean those with a proven conservative record and history.

You read some comments of Trumps from years ago, and make assumptions about his total belief set.  You don't listen to him today, because that can't be what he believes.

Not all that impressive actually.

Not those with a singularly liberal history who suddenly claim conservatism on the campaign trail, while constantly promoting liberalism (support for ethanol subsidies is the latest, and the Iowa Democrats just love it).

Approves of Ethanol subsidies.  Wow, now there's a man I could never support.  Straight face too I'll bet.

Meanwhile, you openly dismiss conservatism as being a useless, losing strategy. On a conservative forum.

Perhaps you could link me to one or more posts I've made where I dismissed Conservatism.

You are dismissing a man hawking Reagan's platform, telling me I've dismissed Conservatism.

Recap that.

You're welcome...

The Cruz supporters think that Trump is standing in his way to go higher in the polls. Last time I looked, Carson was ahead of Cruz too - as was Rubio. One polls has Cruz in 2nd place - tied with Carson. This could be an outlier. Cruz has been mid range in the polls for quite a while.

How come they continue to run the ad then? If I was them and had a crippling lawsuit that could ruin my organization, because my ad was libel and slander would I continue to run the ad or pull it?

The fact that they continue to run the ad and have been doing so for a couple of months now with no legal action from the Donald proves that Trump's claim is BS.

Absent the ability to arrange duels, I'm not seeing much of any way to curb the lies.

Do you have ideas on that front?

Tell the truth and make your case. It isn't like voters don't have access to enough information to make their own judgments.

Our republic has survived a very long time with political candidates being largely shielded from libel and slander laws when discussing other candidates. Why would we want to suck the courts into the middle of our politics?

Talk about your "fundamental transformation".
