Finance minister Wolfgang Schauble has said the German army could be deployed to the streets in a security role, should the nation come under attack.
Reflecting on post-Paris terror attacks security reviews, veteran politician Mr. Schauble admitted that German police resources were basically insufficient for the enormous task at hand. Looking to where extra manpower could come from in times of national stress, he said the nation should look to the army.
The minister said: "If we had a situation like Paris, perhaps with roadblocks in three or four places, you will need to think about whether our police capabilities are sufficient," adding that the national police were already overtaxed on "many normal weekends," reports Germany's NewsTV.
Any suggestion of actually taking steps to control flows through Germany's borders he dismissed out of hand, leaving ordinary Germans with having to live with soldiers on their streets because their politicians were unwilling to put them on their borders.

And Obama would be thinking: “That looks like a great idea! Let’s do that here too!”
In my experience, the Bundeswehr represents very little threat to liberty and freedom. On the other hand, the Poleizi, and especially the Bundesgrenzschutz, need a watchful eye, especially since the consolidation with the East German security apparatus.
Are they gonna have those cool uniforms, too?
Yes, coordinated martial law “for our own safety” is the plan and they’re not gonna backtrack when they’ve made so much progress with us and we put up so little (nonexistent) resistance to it.
Hugo Boss was still in business last time I was at Macy’s.
I believe the German Army will be deployed against the German right wingers who want to stop the Muslim invasion of their country. - Tom
Merkel is wrecking the great country of Germany.
With the Bundeswehr total of 60k plus a bit, how many are shooters? Be spread thin on the ground, especially if Merkel’s target numbers are realized.
Paris raids proved RGPs are attainable. I imagine that the old East German depots experienced a significant shrinkage during the re-union.
And let’s not forget the WII well maintained Panzer discovered not so long ago in a barn.
Interesting times coming right up....
Have you seen the pictures of cities around the country in the past 24-36 hours?
It looks like East Germany during the height of the Cold War.
Or occupied Paris.
All this because the ruling class we have allowed to run this country refuse to finish the fight and kill our enemies wholesale.
This cannot stand. Kill them all. Kill them till they are dead. Then kill them again, just to be sure.
Dresden these scumbags.
I couldn't believe that number, so I looked it up. By golly, you're right. The German Army only has about 60,000 soldiers.
I was curious about the small German units deployed in Afghanistan when I looked it up.
All the previous PR about the effective Leopard tank units left an impression of a much larger army than is really there. But then again, there are the reserves that could be called up for local security duty.
She’s doing what she has to do under the circumstances, but the circumstances were created by her government’s policies.
Don’t drag Dres into the den when a little nip of Nagasaki will do.
No wonder the muzzie rape gangs are running roughshod over them!
Any deployment of troops within the country would be an admission that immigrants pose a grave national security threat.
How can accepting immigrants be more important than national security?
Isn’t armed troops in the streets but a short step from either tyranny or anarchy or both?
What is the cost of careful vetting compared to massive police & military presence 24/7/365?
