Russia Pounds ISIS With Biggest Bomber Raid in Decades
The Daily Beast ^ | November 17th, 2015 | David Axe

The Russian air force just pulled off one of the biggest and most complex heavy bomber missions in modern history—sending no fewer than 25 Backfire, Bear, and Blackjack bombers on a coordinated, long-range air raid against alleged ISIS forces in Syria.

The Tuesday mission, which launched under the cover of darkness from a base in Ossetia in southern Russia, signaled a significant escalation of Moscow’s air war in Syria—and heralded the rebirth of Russian heavy bomber squadrons that once had withered from a lack of funding.

Gen. Valery Gerasimov, chief of Russia’s general staff, announced the raid on Tuesday, calling it part of “a new plan [for] the air campaign.”

The article called them “air launched”.

Obama tried a few days ago just hrs before the Paris Terrorist attack by saying ISIS was contained. He was trying to get credit for containing ISIS from Russia’s military operation

True, but the radar cross section is significantly reduced from what it should be. Not enough to be a true stealthy aircraft, but enough that it won’t be seen coming a couple hundred miles out like, say, the Bear or our own B-52.

Western European electronics, too. Their new generation cruise missiles are using French and German sourced electronics packages.

By my reckoning Russia has dropped more bombs on ISIS in three days than the USAF has in a year. Where are all the Russophobes who told us Putin wasn’t interested in attacking ISIS?

Your thorough tactical analysis is disquieting enough but the implications on a strategic level are very frightening.

Consider the whether the Russian raids, especially as they are directed not against Isis but against United States supported rebels, are in service not so much in the Russian grudge against Isis but in service to its new allies, Iran, Iraq and Syria, constituting a new caliphate possessed with Russian might and nuclear weapons and determined to upset the balance of power in that part of the world which still produces the most oil.

Consider whether the participation by France with the Russians and their evident tactical coordination with the Russians suggests that the always fickle French might be the first in a series of European powers to consider forsaking the NATO alliance (and that really means forsaking America) to throw their lot in with the Russians. The same Russians who are supplying Europe with oil and gas and who are bidding fare to take over or at least interdict Mideast oil and its flow toward Europe. If so, could Germany be far behind?

Are we witnessing the formation of a new world power put together with elements from NATO, Russia and China? If so, the implications are utterly catastrophic.

Consider whether such a new strategic alliance would somehow align itself with Islam. Before rejecting that possibility out of hand we ought to consider the extremely high minority in France who support Islam, some large portion of which is "Christian." Could any of these considerations be behind a massive display of firepower designed not just to destroy Isis, against whom apparently they are only partially directed anyway, but to intimidate neighboring Arab nations and, ultimately, Europe? Is this really a tactical or a strategic matter?

All in all, we had better consider who the enemy in the theater really is. Are we being diverted toward shiny objects in our reaction to Isis when the real enemy is more than a bunch of murderous diaper heads but a real nuclear caliphate bent on global dominance? In our obsession with Isis are we enlarging the Obama created a vacuum which leaves a perfect opening for very dangerous forces?

Better to overestimate your enemy than to underestimate them.

Evidently Barry is more concerned about admiring his reflection in the mirror, golf, disarming the American people and ‘global warming’ probabaly in that order. I think the ME is very very low on his radar.

I hope the Pentagon is paying attention. We are getting a real time demonstration of Russia’s capabilities.

"Are we witnessing the formation of a new world power put together with elements from NATO, Russia and China?"

Yes, and it is quite plain for anyone to see. America, having treated its allies like dog poop for seven years, is seeing them peeled away by the Russians. Iraq is gone. Germany and France are going.

Americans pay no attention to foreign affairs, freepers excepted. People in most other countries are keenly aware of what is going on. Being an ally of the US seems not to be of any value anymore. Certainly it isn't for France in this case.

America's remaining allies are watching this situation in awe. France and Germany are the big dogs of Europe. If they go, and they are going, everybody else goes with them. As Obama boots his allies in the rump, Putin stands there with open arms.

Even with only a year or so left, Obama deserves to be impeached. Starting a serious impeachment effort now will at least take some of his time for the next year.

Practice makes perfect. One thing you can say about Putin is he’s really honing his forces to a sharper edge.

As one who has become cynical of our leadership in both Parties I agree that too many of us are not as informed as needed. That has been in the plan to change the face of America via massive immigration.

We Americans are propagandized by the consolidated MSM so that we don’t pay attention to global affairs. They define what is politically correct, our national agenda, and what we should waste our time doing like shopping for Chinese crap, NFL, and watching The Voice. We spend trillions bailing out Wall St and making them rich as a reward for their incompetence, and call it (crony) capitalism.

We continue with policies that continue to add massive debt while creating oligarchs that buy our pols and make policy with their pocket change. We keep projecting an image of being a rich uncle country while we ring up the credit card with a Federal Reserve that prints money and charges us interest. If we don’t change to responsible fiscal policies the day of reckoning is coming and it will start with collapse of the dollar and our immigration policies will have created an internal 3rd world hell hole and dog eat dog divided culture. Frankly I’m not in favor of frittering more of the USA away in the Middle East.

Btw Russia has very little debt compared to the G20 countries.

"...we...waste our time doing (things) like shopping for Chinese crap, NFL, and watching The Voice."

Exactly. Half the population exists on government handouts, food stamps, school breakfast, lunch and dinner programs, ebt cards. The other half is so busy working and paying for this largess, it doesn't have time to pay attention. Those not lulled into somnabulance by Walmart, drugs, sports or entertainment are pulling their hair out with the state of things.

Only an unconscious populace would award Obama with a 44% approval rating while their country implodes.

If you really want to be rattled, watch this:

It is another presidential lecture disguised as a press conference. It was held today after his boffo performance in Turkey. Go to minute 8 to get to the meat of it. It is very painful to watch.
