So VanDeKoik, what would you suggest Cruz do? What could he possibly do about this that you wouldn't consider "little more than a gesture" so Cruz supporters can "run here and say that very line"?

Cruz has been publicly and loudly calling, in writing directed to Homeland Security as well as in speeches, for refusing Syrian refugees since at least Sept. 24, by the way.

What else would you have him do? Roll over because "we all know this bill is going nowhere"?

Oh Please.

We all know this bill is going nowhere, and will never be signed into law. It is little more than a gesture just for you can run here and say that very line.

After years of the George HW Bush administration being unwilling to engage in any fights on principle, it comes as a breath of fresh air to find someone willing to wage these "meaningless" fights on principle.

It's long past the time we started standing up for what is right whether it has a chance to pass or not.

It's about time he flip-flopped on this issue.

He gave a pretty rousing speech for it last year.

“So VanDeKoik, what would you suggest Cruz do? “

This whole thing is basically “Cruz is a do’er because he introduced a bill” in a chamber where no one will ever so much as bring it to a vote.

So now he has yet another Senate flop to go with all of the others. How do you think that looks to the general public?

Vote for Cruz. So amazing the entire senate actively ignores him!

And why wait until now to even do this? Just for some media attention?

It’s too easy for Dems to attack a blanket refugee ban.

Much smarter would be to allow the elderly, widows, crippled, critically-wounded, and orphaned (no father) children under 13.

Make the debate *entirely* about fighting-age Syrian males...the toughest demographic for Libs to defend.

No answer to my question, I see.

Were you aware that back on Sept. 24, Ted Cruz was actively calling for Congress and Homeland Security to resist admitting Syrian refugees into the U.S. because they are a "substantial national security risk"?

I guess he was just doing it for media attention. Too bad you missed it.

Delete the word Syrian; replace with Muslim.

Oh so where was the bill back then? He called on Obama’s DoHS? Wooo hooooooo.

Where was I? Pretty much treating it with as much importance as everyone else when they hear someone call on Obama to do anything.

If you are impressed with this, then fine. We might as well jump for joy at Rand Paul’s worthless filibuster a few weeks back too.

I no longer am impressed with congressional stunts just for show and resume building. They go nowhere and make the person that did it look ineffective, which is the last thing Cruz needs.

I like Jeff Sessions’ bill better. The one that says ZERO refugees from Syria.

But you are impressed, I take it, with a celebrity patriot's declarations.

Again, no suggestion as to what Cruz should have done instead.

Cruz is an elected senator. Sorry to break it to you, but Trump cannot do anything in the capacity of an elected official. Cruz is, and his supporters are boasting about him being a force in the congress, which unfortunately is an exaggeration at best. So show us!

What he should have done? Ok, you want some instructions?

Here he can use his vaulted pull in the senate to get 4 guys to hold an actual filibuster. Each speaks for 6 hours straight and pass it on. Actually stop all business until the bill is passed. Do it on every bill if it is that important. He is still employed as a senator, then he can show us how important it is. Not just introduce a symbolic bill for the recycle bin.

And what legislation has Donald TRUMP actually has passed ?

None, nadda.

Because ?

Because ?

Yes, right, because he is a businessman and he can spout off anything he wants and his loyal cult followers believe him at his very word as gosple.

While Ted Cruz is out there actually sticking his neck out there politically.

It’s so easy for the Trump supporters to be Monday morning quarterbacks to put Ted Cruz down because Donald TRUMP doesn’t actually have to stick his neck out there politically.

Nor does Donald TRUMP have to worry to have to lose his job if he were to say anything politically incorrect , because ? Because ?

Right, because he can afford to do that for he is a billionaire, RICHY RICH..... More like a arrogant RICHY RICH punk to tell you the truth.

Ted Cruz has more courage and balls than Donald Trump will ever have politically.

Because, because he is a businessman and a billionaire, he can afford to, and doesn’t have to worry about losing his job.

Ok so some people in this site have no ability to distinguish between an elected official and a private citizen

“Yes, right, because he is a businessman and he can spout off anything he wants and his loyal cult followers believe him at his very word as gosple.”

Or you can be a senator and lose every battle and be seen as the greatest statesman in recent history?

“While Ted Cruz is out there actually sticking his neck out there politically”

Yeah nothing like being raked over the coals in the media, losing business, being accused of racism, rape, and being a sexist, getting attacked by leftists, GOPe and conservatives when you aren’t even an elected official to run for a job you don’t even really need to run for because you have enough money to retire comfortably to be seen as doing nothing special. As opposed to holding a job that you can have guaranteed for 6 years and not getting anything through. That’s real bravery!

Thank you for answering my question! Did you forget the 17 hours Cruz stood on his feet to filibuster Obamacare?

Your faith in a patriotic celebrity is touching. I wonder how you would feel if I chose to interpret every word spoken and move made by Trump as merely "symbolic" and risked only for publicity purposes? Especially as Trump is famous in the first place because of his hosting his own TV reality show for seven years? Publicity is Trump's game! He's a master! Even so, I decline to accuse him of mere publicity stunts, unlike your approach to Cruz.

I happen to believe Trump is sincere, and he says things because he means them, not because he wants publicity. I also think he is sincerely misguided in politics because he lacks a political compass.

Cruz has DONE more politically than Trump -- that is, unless you count all the money Trump donated (as a cost of doing business, but of course!) to Democrats for 21 of the past 26 years. Trump actively and concretely, intentionally helped advance Harry Reid, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer, and Charles Rangel (among others) to power.

It's what he DID, as "the cost of doing business." When did Cruz directly contribute to putting leftist tyrants in office for his own financial gain?

Go ahead and be cynical about Cruz, it is understandable -- but why you decline to be equally cynical about a celebrity patriot with a history of sympathizing with Democrats is beyond me. Maybe it's because essentially Trump is an emotional candidate who appeals to emotional voters.

Cruz is a political candidate who appeals to reasoning voters.
