All weekend long and well throughout the day today, the topic of conversation has been on the attacks in Paris. Here in Louisiana, perhaps more than anywhere else, there is a strong connection with the French: Itâs in our culture, itâs the basis of a (rapidly dying) local language, and it is where we as a state came from. The Paris attacks have now given way to a broader U.S. conversation about the acceptance of Syrian refugees, and several states, including Louisiana, have said âNo, weâre not cooperating on this.â
But, do you know who is okay with accepting Syrian refugees, the very source of at least one of the terrorists in Paris? Louisiana gubernatorial candidate John Bel Edwards. Via The Hayride:
Edwardsâ initial equivocation ultimately led him to alter his position, while Vitter jumped in front of the issue and took a clear position heâs not going to move from.
Thatâs what you do when the voters believe youâre correct.
Edwards actually had the chance to perhaps sew up the election by calling Obama out in no uncertain terms and demand a stop to any resettlement efforts in Louisiana. He didnât. He asked for information. But Vitter, who has worked on the issues of immigration and uncontrolled borders for years, didnât hesitate or equivocate.
And resettling Syrian refugees is not going to be a popular idea in Louisiana. At all.
You see, Edwardsâ initial statement was âIâm going to be an active participant in the ongoing conversation with federal authorities.â He spoke of accommodating refugees while at the same time saying that he was going to keep the citizens of his state safe.
..are...words of a man who is saying something that sounds vaguely responsible while not really wanting to commit to something his partyâs leadership is against.

They aren’t refuges - they’re invaders. Military age men who left their women and children back where they are still subject to terrorism.
now who’s putting hookers over patriots? bel edwards is whoring himself to obama and the open borders lobby.
Lock up your daughters, sons, and goats.
And Vitter has found his winning issue. 10,000 Syrian Jihadists coming into the Port of NOLA and John Bel Edwards is welcoming them with open arms. Go nuclear on his ass, David !
Yeah, talk about an early Christmas
10,000 jihadists in a region full of oil refineries and chemical plants. What could POSSIBLY go wrong? /sarcasm
It may be too late with five days to go; people are slow to catch on.
There are many discouraged liberals in LA after 2014 defeats who see the path to rebound on Saturday though this second Edwards. And they seem as unstoppable as the jihadists.
FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT LIKE MAD, because your life may (literally) depend on it!
Never say never. Even if Johnny Bel wins, that won’t be a successful rebuilding effort for the Dems, but the last gasp of a party finally on its way out in the South (and Johnny will have something Cousin Fast Eddie could never have imagined in his worst nightmare... a hostile Republican majority legislature).
Feed them to the alligators.
if the hayride poll is to be credible, then the race will be won in lake charles and baton rouge. so keep an eye on the numbers for these places come saturday.
Ouch.
Freepers who stick up for liberals like Edwards tend to disappear when they show their true colors, the smart ones anyway, some have no shame and dig their heels in further.
Vitter only led in about twelve parishes; Edwards in 45 or so.
This might eke out the election for Vetter.
