Trump: Why I may have to go to war with Cruz...GOP front-runner puts Texas senator on notice

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump just put rival Ted Cruz on notice: Get too hot and I'll have to take you down.

Describing the senator from Texas as "nice and supportive," Trump told CNBC’s "Squawk Box" on Monday that the two candidates have similar ideas on many of the issues, including border security and the need for a wall to keep out illegal immigrants.

"[But] If he catches on, I guess we'll have to go to war," Trump said of Cruz, who's seen a bit of a bump nationally and in the early contest states of Iowa and New Hampshire since last week's Republican debate.

I sens that both Trump and Cruz get along very well, both meet-eye-to-eye on thie issues.

Unless you believe this article is true. Here he threatens war if he becomes a electoral threat.

What an ally, just the guy we need /s

There also exists one of Hitler shaking hands with Chamberlin, and we know what that got him.

(p.s..Trumpets....before your heads explode......I'm not saying Trump is Hitler, just a simple political hyperbole)

They are competing for the nomination.

Trump continues to be respectful of Cruz, but is essentially saying I may at some time have to make the case for why I should be the nominee instead of Ted.

Nothing wrong with that.

Did you catch this part of Trump's quote?....

"I guess we’ll have to go to war,"

Does that sound like a respectful way to contrast their candidacy? Sounds more like more of the same tactics from Trump......Obnoxiousness and Insults.

Ted is the only gentleman out there.
Honest, intelligent, wise beyond his years. I guess we cancel each other out

No it doesn’t.

Makes it sound like an obligation that he’d rather not have to fulfill. Doesn’t imply insults at all.

Trump has only insulted rival candidates after they’ve insulted him, but you choose to present it as the opposite.

Trump is who I will vote for! I like Cruz, but I believe Trump will be the Republican nominee! We need Trump at this time in our Nation’s history. There is no time for on-the-job training! We need a bold leader!!! GO TRUMP!

I like Cruz very much, but I could see this one coming, and like you I have to side with Trump.

When the dust settles, I suspect they will be friends and allies.

I sense that Trump will need Cruz for VP, to get the Latino vote.

And you’re a fool. You’re backing a candidate who SAYS he will do something despite the fact that he’s lived his entire life in opposition to those things. Prior to six months ago you’d have laughed at the very idea that he would even run as a Republican....but now that he’s spouted a couple of talking points...with NO specificity...you fall all over yourself excusing this thing he’s said or that thing he’s done.

Which flavor KoolAid do you prefer?

Trump was a national fundraiser for Reagan back in the ‘80s.

He knows enough and was right not to be a Bush backer—and he still isn’t. The corrupt Bush family has been a disaster for the conservative cause.

Yeah, Trump had his years focused on his business and hasn’t from afar hit every position point perfectly every year. But he has a couple of decades of published books overwhelmingly backing conservative principles and positions.

He is a real patriot and the real deal. Perfect? No. But close to the perfect man for this very imperfect time.

If Trump wins he'd slap his own name (in uuge letters) all over the United States of TRUMP.

Since it's likely(?) he wouldn't carry New Yawk, ya'll (youse guys, for those more 'Joirsey') are out.

No more soup for you.

We'll stop the trucks. No more shipments.

Hardly any truck driver wants to go into NYC, anyway.

If Cruz is the nominee I will vote for him. However Cruz is a professional politician. He has no leadership skills, no executive experience and little appeal to anyone other than social conservatives. He is doing well by adopting all of Trumps positions. Does Cruz ever have an original thought? Does he have an agenda of his own? Or is he is just a "me too" weather vane professional politician candidate trying to steal Trump agenda?

When he takes an position and it proves to be an unpopular position he finds a reason to flip flop! Well I'll vote for him but I do not trust him. And I think his natural born citizen problem will hurt him badly in the general.

Cruzs’ biggest donor is the globalist Club for Growth. That is same Club for Growth that goes nuclear on Trump with negatives TV ads. The Club for Growth owns Cruz. Trial lawyers also like Cruz as does Goldman Sachs. Neither of which is surprising since Cruz is a lawyer and his wife works for Goldman Sachs.

Awwww, insults - the preferred method of liberals and Cruz supporters.

Your hatred is so irrational you can’t even hear what I’ve said. There’s plenty of reasons. But just like liberals, your mind is shut to everything but what YOU think. Because only you and those that think like you are worthy of contemplating.

I have your number.

You should think about why you are so condescending and arrogant, and think you are the only one with an intelligent thought-out plan. It’s neither Christ-like nor Cruz-like.

I’ve reiterated my ideas over and over but you Cruz-bots don’t hear, you just insult. Cruz has been vague on illegal immigration. Only recently did he even bother to talk about the illegals here, and that is still vague. I escaped Mexifornia and any candidate with the courage to take on the media, left, and GOPe and come out with a plan to deport them, which could have backfired, gets my support. it’s an issue that will destroy our country and we need someone that’s not beholden to donors.

Cruz could never be confirmed by the Senate. The Republicans hate him more than the Dems. He will get Borked. The only Supreme Court Justices we will ever see going forward are “in the pocket” insiders.

“The Club for Growth owns Cruz. “

I didn’t know that. I just had a feeling from his very vague statements about the illegals here, that something was stopping him from taking a strong conservative stance. He’s smart enough to know he needed to, especially after Trump didn’t crash after talking deportation. And he’s conservative enough to, hopefully, want to do the right thing.

I doubt there will be a large scale purge this cycle it looks like it’s either Trump or Cruz (advantage Trump) both are acceptable to most here. Now if it’s Trump there might be a few Trump haters that will have bite their tongues for a couple of months. I’ve been very critical of Cruz but I’d back him in the general as long as he did not go wobbly on immigration.
