Trump is going nuclear on White House rival Carson. Here's why
Yahoo News via Reuters ^ | 11/16/2015 | By Tim Reid and Chris Kahn

Donald Trump has dramatically escalated his attacks on his nearest rival for the Republican presidential nomination, Ben Carson. A new Reuters/Ipsos poll may explain why: the billionaire real estate magnate is bleeding support among avid church-goers and women to the retired neurosurgeon.

While the unconstrained Trump has a comfortable double-digit lead over the soft-spoken Carson, the data points to a possible emerging threat to Trump's hopes of capturing the party's nomination for the November 2016 election.

The poll of likely Republican primary voters also shows that Carson is drawing strong support from the rural Midwest, including Iowa, which holds the first Republican nominating contest on Feb. 1. Trump, in contrast, is drawing strong support in the northeast and southeast.

That geographical divide is significant, analysts said, because Carson's dominance in more socially conservative states like Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska reflects how his story of personal redemption is resonating strongly with evangelical voters. They traditionally play an outsize role not just in the first nominating contest in Iowa on Feb. 1, but in Nevada and South Carolina, which also hold nominating votes in February.

"If Carson keeps his nose clean he could win those states and could catch lightning in a bottle," said Ford O'Connell, a Republican strategist not affiliated with either campaign.

Trump, who has topped national polls of likely Republican primary voters for months, has until now enjoyed strong support among the key constituency of low-income, blue-collar, church-going voters, who have been attracted by his image as a straight-talking political outsider.

But Carson's similar appeal as an outsider taking on the Republican establishment has undercut Trump's support in recent weeks, and Carson has surged to the top of a few recent national polls.

You can't be redeemed if you weren't bad to begin with. We are all sinners.

Amen to that. I was only trying to make a joke. I have no ill will toward Dr. Carson. I have friends who I care about deeply who have similar speaking styles. None of them could compete on the national stage to become president.

There are things about Trump which are disturbing but I believe that in today's world we need someone who talks loudly and carries a big stick.

Carson hit the media focus with his boldness at the prayer breakfast. Willingness to stand up to Barry made him a hero.

We should be careful of politicians foisted on us by virtue of a single speech. Barkie went national at the 2004 Dumbocrap convention with his keynote.

But Barkie only faced Hillary after the Edwards meltdown. Carson, fortunately, faces much a steeper climb.

His quiet confidence goes a long way.

Is that the other half? If so, I think it's the half that puts people to sleep like Jeb. If not, please explain.

But does your wienerdog think that the pyramids were big grain elevators? Or that we should create no-fly zones in Syria and bomb the Russians if they fly into it?

In general she likes to bark furiously and charismatically at anyone who violates her no fly zone so I asked her your question. She has refused to answer unless I can find her another dingo twisty stick.

My take as well, bad news indeed.

After the events in Paris on 11/13, I will be adding
this to my posts for the next week. I'm certain our
turn is coming again soon. We stand united against
Islamic extremists.

Medical question:

Is violent early-life behavior such as Carson has described of himself a condition that can never be completely cured.

Regarding Carson’s behavior, I’m not sure that he was really going to injure those people he “attacked”.

My father in law in a fit of temper drove his car with his 4 children and wife toward a cliff, then near the end stopped the car and drove on down the highway.

Carson voters would go 100% Cruz.

My wienerdog supports Carson because she is black... and tan. In her case you are correct because she believes that Cruz is the smartest of all the candidates and he does appear to be tan.

Carson is only a threat until people actually start watching him speak, then things go down hill fairly quickly.

If they knew about the beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Evangelicals may not want to follow Carson.

Wholistic human nature (fundamental beliefs 7, 26)—Humans are an indivisible unity of body, mind, and spirit. They do not possess an immortal soul and there is no consciousness after death (commonly referred to as "soul sleep"). (See also: Christian anthropology)

Conditional immortality (fundamental belief 27)—The wicked will not suffer eternal torment in hell, but instead will be permanently destroyed. (See: Conditional immortality, Annihilationism)

Critics such as evangelical Anthony Hoekema (who felt that Adventists were more in agreement with Arminianism) argue that some Adventist doctrines are heterodox. Several teachings which have come under scrutiny are the annihilationist view of hell, the investigative judgment (and a related view of the atonement), and the Sabbath; in addition, Hoekema also claims that Adventist doctrine suffers from legalism.

Among his best-known works are: The Four Major Cults: Christian Science, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormonism, Seventh-Day Adventism (1963, ISBN 0-8028-0445-4)

well, this Evangelical likes Trump. We are electing a President, not hiring a pastor. I’ll take the sometime Presbyterian warts and all.

We are electing a President, not hiring a pastor.

It's always amazing what can be hidden behind that tired old canard.

In any case, I was simply stating the facts on the ground in Iowa as I know them. Most evangelicals are not enamored with Donald Trump.

In fact, one meeting that I attended with evangelical leaders in Des Moines had zero Trump supporters present. And these were activists.

Carson may belong in a surgery suite, but not in the White House.
