No, the intended purpose of the bombers (and I specialize in this) was to first and foremost destroy the Luftwaffe on the ground. They failed. They destroyed it in the air by being "bait" to draw them up. In June 1943 the Luftwaffe was sending 20% of its total force just to stop the bombers. By June 44, it was 40%.

The only way to destroy the actual shooting terrorists---without getting into the whole "destroy Islam as an ideology thing"---was to get them to come OUT of the 20 nations they were in and fight. In my book "America's Victories," I calculated, based on Iraqi morgue statistics (and apparently no one else has done this) the casualty levels of the terrorists. We had in three years killed, wounded, or captured 250,000---and that is an extremely low estimate. We easily could have doubled that number because those were only the "non-civilians" processed in Iraq alone. No, the invasion not only was right, it should have been more completely engaged.

Thank you. My father in law was one of those B17 pilots. He bombed mostly strategic locations, industry’s, energy, rail yards and the like. Indeed, it got the Luftwaffe’s attention. Socialism is rearing it’s ugly head again and will always be with us.

Bush’s strategy worked well. Thanks for clarifying. I know well a man that was on the UN inspection team for WMDs. He confirmed; Saddam Hussein had them and they mostly moved to Syria.
