The congress has the up or down vote on SCOTUS nominations.

You must have incredible instincts if you can detect that Trump is planning to hire a bunch of people to shrink the government, because he’s never said that, other 1 or 2 agencies he doesn’t like. Trump hasn’t talked much about cutting government beyond cutting the waste and abuse, a.k.a. “running it better.” Trump belittles anyone who says they want to get the government out of entitlements like Medicare and Social Security. Cruz, on the other hand, has a dramatic plan to close and shrink government agencies. He regularly talks about the virtues of smaller government.

Mexico doesn’t have a dictator, so AFAIK there is no dictator sending illegals into our country, with the possible exception of Iranian sleeper agents.

Cruz has long been out-in-front on opposing the Iranian deal, so there’s no daylight there between the two.

“Trade deals” have a minimal impact on our economy. Trump’s been railing against them since the Reagan administration but absolutely no cause and effect has been shown between a trade deal to any kind of downturn in our economy. On the contrary, we’ve seen incredible technological booms that have improved all our lives dramatically, with technology produced by us, other countries and joint efforts between us and them. This is a huge sign that free trade is doing very well for us. I don’t want to be forced to buy an American product if the Koreans or Japanese are making something better. The American company should be forced to compete with them. The benefit of competition is a bedrock conservative principle.

Trade barriers destroy economic growth and standard of living. Just imagine having to pay a tariff on every package you receive from overseas, which is what happens in many other countries. We have the freedom to buy most goods from anywhere in the world without paying an import tax. Trump threatens to take that away from us. I’ve never spoken to one foreign national who brags about how happy they are that they have to pay a customs fee to receive a foreign package.

Trump has posted a tweet bashing Iowa voters, then deleted it and said a “young intern” did it. Last night he referred to some voters as “stupid.” He threatened Megyn Kelly in the first debate and then publically bullied her online for weeks. He’s used profanity in his campaign speeches. He feels the need to verbally attack pretty much anyone who he thinks has slighted him and these grudges can last for weeks if not forever. Trump’s tone of voice may be controlled, but his language, statements and easily bruised ego are not.

The president nominates. We are talking about possibly nominating a,functional pro-abort for the presidency. If we do that, the candidate will lose. You can’t elect a Republican candidate without social conservatives.

I’m not going to rebut your posts because I’ve been on here all day and must get going, and since we disagree on so much, it seems futile. So cheers to you, and may the best man win.

But we can hold the lne by not electing someone who will put an open pro-abort on the Court.

He can't put someone on the SCOTUS by fiat; nor does the law hold the line; society must hold the line and women must hold their legs together. Improving the economy so men can afford a pregnant wife, a house and family is just as much a deterrent to abortion as passing a law that will drive abortion back to the black market. Single-issue politics is a bad idea. The social issues cannot stand in the way of rescuing our economy or there will be no future for any of our children in what we must now jokingly refer to as America.

Gotta go now; nice debating with you today.

I view the social issues as causing the economic issues. Have a nice evening. Always a pleasure to chat with you.

Your sins can be forgiven and your life can be totally changed, but you are not the same afterward. You belong totally to God and not to the world.

You are healed in the most important way, for your soul. But not for your life on this planet.

We need someone who is of the world. Politics and government are a worldly endeavor. You can’t be a prophet if you want to be president—the two don’t mix. Your mission today has to be to lead this country out of its enormous problems. For the right person, that IS the will of God. It’s not for everyone who is a true Christian.

I believe many people have been praying for this for America. Much as my heart goes out to people who have “been through the fire,” I believe we have found our paragon of worldly success and our fighter for our future in Trump.

Also, regarding the repetition: He is in a different location each time, speaking to many people who have come partly out of curiosity and people who are not the avid political junkies that we are. They haven’t heard the stump speech before.

He knows what he’s doing. There is always enough red meat for those who are following closely, and for the press.

And also, I’m sure he has the best consultants on this matter (anchor babies). He always has the best people advising him and working for him. That’s part of the secret of his success.

http://therightscoop.com/ted-cruz-why-i-voted-yes-for-corker-iran-bill/

The Corker Iran bill passed the Senate 98-1 today...

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, released the following statement regarding votes on the Iran Nuclear Review Act:

“This bill was a missed opportunity. If Congress had acted to defend our constitutional authority - if Congress had adopted the Cruz-Toomey amendment - then we would be able to stop a bad Iran deal. Instead, the odds are now overwhelming that under these ground rules President Obama will negotiate, and Congress will acquiesce to, a terrible deal that allows Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and will endanger the lives of millions of Americans and our allies.

“I voted no on cloture because we should have insisted on amendments to put real teeth in this bill. Ultimately, I voted yes on final passage because it may delay, slightly, President Obama’s ability to lift the Iran sanctions and it ensures we will have a Congressional debate on the merits of the Iran deal. I will continue to lead the fight to prevent the Islamic Republic of Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to protect the national security of America and our allies.”

Cruz gets disqualified for trying to improve a weak bill and then voting for it so that it passed 98-1 instead of 97-2? Let’s stick to meaningful issues.
