Louisiana lawmakers such as Reps. Charles Boustany Jr., John Fleming and State Treasurer John Kennedy have made it known that they are looking at seeking Vitterâs seat, and Republicans there say that field could grow even larger in an open primary. With their support for Vitter, the three have been catering to their constituency of one, Vitter, who, if elected governor, would be able to appoint his successor if he was sworn-in.
As they did in Kentucky, Republicans in Louisiana appear to be counting, at least in part, on President Barack Obamaâs unpopularity in the South in their messaging against Edwards. And with Kentucky as an example, where polling repeatedly showed the Democrat with the advantage in a race this month that was ultimately won by Republican businessman Matt Bevin, Louisiana Republicans said that polling results should be taken with an extra grain of salt.
In early voting, which began Saturday, turnout has been higher than it was during the primary in October. According to preliminary numbers released by the Louisiana secretary of State on Wednesday, 20,500 more Democrats have voted than Republicans and they are doing so in Democratic-leaning areas, according to an analysis by Louisiana-based pollster John Couvillon.
The Republican Governors Association, which has been helping lead the attacks on Edwards, did not decide until Wednesday to extend its spending on the television airwaves for the final week of the runoff. But on Thursday, it launched a new advertisement that questioned Edwardsâ trustworthiness continuing its effort to tie him to Obama. Last week, the group put $1 million behind a commercial that aimed to ding Edwards as an âObama liberal.â

Bobby Jindal refused to endorse Vitter? I didn’t know that.
If Vitter loses, he has an obligation to step down. I realize that Vitter has his defenders and they are right about his voting record being good. I once admired him. But what’s so bad about expecting someone to practice what they preach?
Voting records are one thing, and by one thing I mean nothing.
What has he actually accomplished in Washington?
The same all other Republicans have accomplished in Washington.
Nothing.
The polls in Kentucky were wrong and the polls in Louisiana are wrong!
Vitter will win this by 8 points.
I hope so!
Spreading non stop
More tired Dem psych op hit pieces from Left Call a Dem owned and operated .
As someone who lived in LA and wife's family been there forever.
The La media is run by Hard core Libs and they hate Vitter .
Vitter will win .
Vitter got very few votes in the primary, 23 percent, compared to the Democrat, with about 40 percent. It was a essentially four-way race. That’s why he is in trouble: his base is much smaller than thought. Please LA is historically Democrat, and many Democrats are yearning to revive themselves and are counting on gullible Republicans to help them do so.
Vitter 23; Edwards 40; Angelle 20, and Dardenne 15. The 15 from Dardenne added to Edwards gives the Democrat 55 percent. And Angelle has not endorsed Vitter either. Now some 62 percent of registered voters shunned the primary.
Jindal briefly succeeded Vitter in the House, but the two are not intraparty allies in LA. Jindal wouldn’t endorse Vitter I would think unless Vitter endorsed Jindal for President, which he has not done.
Those KY polls were the most inaccurate of any I believe I have ever heard. Total surprise, and it wasn’t all that close either.
I don’t think Jindal endorsing him would be any help. Jindal unpopularity is the reason this is a race.
Edwards will not get most of Dardeene’s votes. Voters do not follow endorsements of politicians and polls, especially in the south lean Democratic. But, elections go Republican.
As for the Senate seat, I’m not interested in any replacement that’s less conservative but super faithful to his wife, his voting record can effect me, his genitals can not. Boustany is definitely a no, son of a bitch was prepared to see another democrat elected to the House from LA if it meant a safer seat for him, that is never to be forgiven. Not too hot on Kennedy either.
Ping
Jeff Landry. Accept no RINO substitutes.
each post jungle primary poll has bel-edwards taking 52-56 percent. if vitter loses, he should forgo re-election. vitter bet the house on the governorship. he could lose it all.
i think the hooker story is not what ails vitter. that s old news. jindal stinking approvals and congress’s poll numbers are what s killing vitter.
2 new ones
48-42
And 56-34, which defies credibility. What is with this polling? Oversampling Blacks? I can believe Vitter is trailing but by over 20 points? Pass the shrooms.
The RINO Establishment has been working hard to destroy Vitter. That the sitting GOP Lt Governor, Dardenne, after he lost the primary (and in a fit of pique) endorsed Edwards is an outrage, and he should be read out of the party for such apostasy and make sure that is the end of his political career.
