Texas lawmakers made carrying a concealed weapon in campus buildings legal as of next August, but opponents are already trying to forestall enforcement by creating gun-free zones.
The resistance comes as similar measures are being debated in Florida, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
Texas is among eight states that allow concealed carrying of weapons on public college campuses. The other states are Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Oregon, Utah and Wisconsin, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Hopefully Texas lawmen will arrest anyone attempting to violate the constitutional rights of anyone carrying legally in their Sharia zones.
And people BETTER call a cop and prosecute, then start suing every person involved personally.
I am willing to wager that the number of crazed shooters in Texas universities will be zero - or that number 10 seconds after the shooter shows his intention.
It is good to see Texas doing something positive at its colleges and universities vs a state like Missouri with the inmates running the show.
Yep.
Everyone needs to BRACE themselves!
.
Funny how, even with allowing guns on campus, higher education in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Oregon, Utah, and Wisconsin is not the free fire zone that liberals predict from such a policy. It must be something in the water of those states that makes their residents uniquely peaceable, or perhaps they are all Quakers.
As a Texan who lives very close to Austin, I love it!
Only idiots believe that “gun-free zones” will make them safer from terrorists and criminals and mass murderers.
“Gun Free Zones” aka killing fields,
The 2A is clear. When people organize to institute gun control zones, that is a conspiracy to deprive someones constitutional rights. When a pol or govt/Govt funded agency does it, it becomes conspiracy to violate civil rights under color of authority.
If the pro gun groups like the NRA/GOA were legitimate defenders of gun rights, they would be filing suits/injunctions and filing criminal charges based on every single instance of either and bankrupting anyone attempting it.
