Democrats outspent and outpolled Republican novice Matt Bevin, and expected their candidate, Attorney General Jack Conway, to keep the Kentucky governorship in Democrat hands, where it had been for all but one term of the last half century. Instead, Tea Partier Bevin, who had previously challenged Mitch McConnell for the GOP nomination for Senator and lost big, pulled off a near landslide victory with an 85,000 vote margin. Sheryl Gay Stolberg and Alan Blinder of the New York Times:
In beating his Democratic opponent, Attorney General Jack Conway, by almost nine percentage points, Mr. Bevin, 48, shocked people in his own party, who believed that the climate in Kentucky was ripe for a Republican but feared that Mr. Bevin, a charismatic conservative with a go-it-alone style, was too far out of the mainstream and too inexperienced to win.

Sounds like some folks just don’t get it.
“And just to sweeten the pot, his Lt. Gubbernor is a black, TEA Party woman Jenean Hampton.”
2016 VP Pick?
And a lot of pollsters are scratching their heads as well. Virtually every survey over the past two weeks had Conway with a lead, sometimes just outside the margin of error. Some of those polls were conducted by GOP firms.
Matt Bevin’s landslide confirms a couple of things: first, many polls are increasingly unreliable in an era when many people no longer have a home “land line” phone and don’t respond when pollsters call their cell. Secondly, various polling models seem to consistently underestimate the level of Tea Party support for candidates. I’m guessing the Tea Party carried Bevin to victory, but no one saw it coming.
Some major implications for polling across the country as 2016 looms. Models are still under-sampling and under-estimating elements of the GOP base. Kentucky was a polling disaster; it would be interesting to know how Bevin’s internal polls compared to the media sampling.
My thoughts exactly
There is a God!
That is icing on the cake! :)
TED CRUZ is that right conservative.
Kentucky is a strong message that full-throated conservatism has far more appeal than the GOP establishment is willing to admit.
Tidal wave is coming!
Cruz or lose!
The same out of synch poll performance seems to be happening in La. Some (probably cooked poll) put Vitter losing to Williams after the GOPers outposted the Dems by a large margin in the October election.
It is outstanding news but does this mean Kentucians (sp?) will throw out Senator McTurtle in 6 years? Finally? I mean the governor elect should really be in Mitch’s seat right now.
Let the Democrat excuse making begin!
tea hee!
Go to hell dems! I will never vote for any democrat candidate anytime anywhere.
Bump to that!
Democrats outspent and outpolled Republican novice Matt Bevin,
...
I’m shocked! How can the polls be wrong?
I bet the GOPe doesn’t like his victory either.
He dumbasses! It's that f***ing "Gay Marriage" bullsh*t. You shouldn't have gone off the edge of the planet.
People wanted a means to voice their disapproval, and this is it.
Probably because they thought they have it in the bag. I doubt they'll make that mistake next Nov.
Outstanding! It gets better and better. Finally, some good news for a change.
That is an excellent cartoon. Exactly right.
