In response to what the Seattle mayor calls a growing homeless crisis in the city, Ed Murray signed a proclamation declaring a civil emergency.
More than 2,800 men, women, and children are without shelter on the streets of Seattle, which is a 21 percent increase from last year, according to the latest overnight count.
"We are in a moment of our history where decades of service cuts, growing inequality, and untreated mental health and drug [addiction] has finally resulted in a human crisis seen in the history of our city -- indeed in the history of our nation," Murray said.(snip)
Many Ballard residents say they were "blindsided" over summer plans to put that homeless camp in their neighborhood. Itâs located in a lot that sits near a bar, Sloop Tavern, and not far from a medical marijuana dispensary and a liquor store.

With all the $trillions the government taxes away to “help people” how can there be anyone left homeless?
Are you kidding? It CAUSED this.
To a liberal, the solution to everything is higher taxes. Until they run out of people to tax...................

Location, location, location!

Eat it, Seattle liberals....you get what you subsidize
Money never solves this problem. Cold does. If you think these people are on the street because they can’t find a job your wrong. They are on the street because there is no job that they could hold. Either mental illness or drugs (which is a mental illness) stops them from leading even the lowest form of a civil life.
Its hard to figure out what to do with them. London figured out one way to deal with them 200 years ago. In London and several other major cities around the world, they place soup kitchens and shelters about 5 to 10 miles apart. And they open only one day a week each. This forces the homeless to walk all day to get to their next free meal. Sometimes they have the women only route be different or 2 days behind the men’s route. But they are all forced to get up and leave after an early small breakfast.
One purpose for this, is that it stops them from infiltrating a neighborhood. While they show up a few hours before a meal, they can’t linger too long in one place. Another reason this works is that it stops socializing between the men. When they group together they are more likely to commit crimes. And they are more likely to gang up on certain individuals who are weaker.
A soup kitchen really does not cost too much. And charities handle most of the cost. These people don’t trust the government any more than we do. If you gave them a free room and board but forced them to live “right and clean” most would choose the street.
Step 1. Buy 2,800 bus tickets to Anywhere, USA.
Step 2. Problem Solved.
Plenty of guilt-ridden liberal homeless-huggers.
Some people have a good-hearted compassion for the less fortunate and actually want to solve problems at the core.
Then there are those on a guilt trip. They don’t want to solve problems, they want to throw money at them so as to *appear* moral and loving. Even better if it is other people’s money.
The world is overrun and run down by the people for whom appearance (deception) is everything. If they feel guilty about their own paychecks, it must be because they viscerally perceive that they really didn’t earn them in the first place. Bureaucrats, academics, and other useless feeders come to mind..
The homeless understand that there is no shortage of guilty, gullible liberals.
Make it $70,000. It worked so well for that one company.
Sounds like they put it in the right place.
Sometimes you get the government you vote for.
