As influential as undecided voters may be, they eventually have to pick a candidate. Their money, however, can play the field. Amid a sprawling Republican field in the race for president, a sizable chunk of donors have spread their money among multiple candidates. Some pick ideologically similar candidates Ted Cruz and Ben Carson, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush. But others are hedging their bets and putting their money on both sides of the political aisle including donations to Clinton and Bush.
Using the latest Federal Elections Commission filings, National Journal found matching donors among multiple candidates and tallied how much they donated to each. Donors qualified as a match if they had the same name (up to the first two words) and lived in the same five digit zip code. This analysis only includes itemized donors, who typically gave more than $200. (snip)
Ben Carson (raised $31.4M / $11.7M itemized) Carson has a wide donor base, so he's likely to have substantial matches with other candidates. Note his connections to Carly Fiorina, another outsider candidate.
Hillary Clinton (raised $77.5M / $61.7M itemized) Clinton has a relatively low share of donors who overlap with other candidates, though Bernie Sanders, Martin O'Malley and the two Florida Republicans top her list.
Ted Cruz (raised $26.6M / $17M itemized) Cruz sees overlaps from two directions â Ben Carson, presumably driven by evangelical donors, and the more centrist Marco Rubio.
Donald Trump (raised $5.8M / $1M itemized) Trump's campaign raised around 80 percent of its total from donors contributing under $200, another oddity separating him from the Republican slate.

Can you imagine if Trump didn’t self-finance?
He’d have vacuumed so much money out of the donors
that the kiddie-table dreamers would have starved to death
long ago and maybe the grown-up table would have a few empty seats, too.
Trump can’t be bought....says he’s “owned by the people”.
Go Trump!
The Trump list means nothing. If any of the others (demonazis included) cant raise more than 2 billion dollars, they wont be able to compete.
That is what Trump can and will spend.
Some cross=party donors may be trying to prop up a weaker candidate on the other side.
