Letter from RNC Chairman Reince Priebus to NBC News (Feb Debate Suspended)
Republican National Committee ^ | October 30, 2015 | Reince Priebus

Posted on 10/30/2015 9:59:44 AM PDT by abb

Mr. Andrew Lack Chairman, NBC News 30 Rockefeller Plaza New York, New York 10112

Dear Mr. Lack,

I write to inform you that pending further discussion between the Republican National Committee (RNC) and our presidential campaigns, we are suspending the partnership with NBC News for the Republican primary debate at the University of Houston on February 26, 2016. The RNC’s sole role in the primary debate process is to ensure that our candidates are given a full and fair opportunity to lay out their vision for America’s future. We simply cannot continue with NBC without full consultation with our campaigns.

The CNBC network is one of your media properties, and its handling of the debate was conducted in bad faith. We understand that NBC does not exercise full editorial control over CNBC’s journalistic approach. However, the network is an arm of your organization, and we need to ensure there is not a repeat performance.

CNBC billed the debate as one that would focus on “the key issues that matter to all voters—job growth, taxes, technology, retirement and the health of our national economy.” That was not the case. Before the debate, the candidates were promised an opening question on economic or financial matters. That was not the case. Candidates were promised that speaking time would be carefully monitored to ensure fairness. That was not the case. Questions were inaccurate or downright offensive. The first question directed to one of our candidates asked if he was running a comic book version of a presidential campaign, hardly in the spirit of how the debate was billed.

While debates are meant to include tough questions and contrast candidates’ visions and policies for the future of America, CNBC’s moderators engaged in a series of “gotcha” questions, petty and mean-spirited in tone, and designed to embarrass our candidates. What took place Wednesday night was not an attempt to give the American people a greater understanding of our candidates’ policies and ideas.

I have tremendous respect for the First Amendment and freedom of the press. However, I also expect the media to host a substantive debate on consequential issues important to Americans. CNBC did not.

While we are suspending our partnership with NBC News and its properties, we still fully intend to have a debate on that day, and will ensure that National Review remains part of it.

I will be working with our candidates to discuss how to move forward and will be in touch.

Sincerely,

Reince Priebus Chairman, Republican National Committee

The RNC is suspending its participation...

Twenty bucks says this debate goes on. No way will the GOP-e not ultimately capitulate to NBC. Once again, this is all Kabuki. Talk tough and mean... give it up... and then tell everyone how hard you fought but just couldn't get it done.

Reince and repeat.

“’s Am I the only one seeing these symbols? Home computers, work computers, iPhone, they seem to be popping up all over the place with great frequency these days.”

No, pretty much everyone is seeing them and on pretty much all browsers. The problem is with websites using mixed up font encodings, usually so-called “smart quotes”, and there’s nothing the browsers can do about receiving ill-posed data.

BTW, I’m only seeing them on FR, so I suspect when someone composes a response that has “smart quotes” included and then copies and pastes into the comments section is where the problem lies. This has happened in the past at FR and then stopped, but now has come back again, so I suspect a bug in the FR web filter that accepts pasted text.

As they used to say on the Outer Limits:

“There is nothing wrong with your television. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are now in control of the transmission ... we will control all that you see and hear.”

Well if they have the debate and nobody shows up that could be a little embarrassing.

All Trump and Cruz have to do is get with Rush, and yes Levin though I have my issues with the guy) and do a series of debates on Youtube.

I have said for several years now that Republicans should avois the MSM entirely and follow thepath of Reagan and Palin. Take the case directly to the public. Trump and Cruz have plenty of cash to make an internet campaign viable.

The internet is where people are. People with Cable have internet. They will just as easily ‘turn on’ youtube as NBC or Fox.

THERE IS NO POINT in 2015 to helping enrich your enemy.

Fox News and Megyn Kelly had an agenda the RNC liked going after Trump a few months back and this isn’t the first debate with an agenda and it won’t be the last if they continue the RNC way.

ABC, CNN, National Review all have agendas to promote Democrats and or liberal Republicans.

I'd automate the moderator function with software, but it would be fun to have the same crew back, but wired up to cattle prods on sensitive areas this time to keep them in line.

I'm just SURE he didn't mean YOU guys!!

LOL!

I would not watch The Blaze if Extra Terrestrials were going to land at Beck's studio and sit down for an interview.

If I see the crazy quotes in PREVIEW, I substitute them with one's from my keyboard.

They work fine then.

No, pretty much everyone is seeing them and on pretty much all browsers.

Being filtered thru the UTAH data storage compound may have some effect on what Conservatives are seeing.

This is all a sbam. Prebius knows the media is against the Republicans yet he still agreed to the debates. If he knew and agreed anyway then why is he so surprised by the result?

Straight BS.
