The school resource officer who was caught on camera violently flipping a South Carolina high school student at her desk has been fired, Richland County authorities announced Wednesday.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said an internal investigation over the Monday incident at Spring Valley High School in Columbia focused on whether Senior Deputy Ben Fields had violated the department’s policies. He said at a news conference that the department looked at cellphone videos taken from the classroom and interviews with witnesses, and concluded that the maneuvers he used in the confrontation were “not acceptable.”

For everybody saying the officer was in the right on this:

What if it was your kid? Does non-violent refusal warrant being flipped out of your chair? What if she hit the back of her head and was knocked unconscious? Then you have to worry about a concussion.

If it were my kid that refuse to obey a lawful order of a cop I would back up the cop in every way. Any backing for a belligerent, smart ass punk is what is wrong with this country today. THESE KIDS DO NOT RULE THE WORLD! And it is time they understood that.

This event most likely was a set up as the 'girl' was asked three or more times to stop using her phone in class...this is how Black Lives Matter organizations work.

Expect the racist POTUS to enter at some point....

And people wonder why police moral is in the toilet. They are being asked to do more and more simply because no one else wants to do anything ...why? Liability...

“Across the room”? From what I saw he flipped her chair over when she slapped him. That guy is toast, but you can tip those desk-chairs over just by sitting in them wrong.

They ought to bring back corporal punishment for these unruly kids! Granted it was a long time ago, but you got the strap across the wrist for infractions at the school I went to (R.C.). As much as ten at a time for serious infractions which could really sting, but no lasting damage (well maybe a little to my psyche). For every one of these kids that get away with this kind of nonsense, you get ten more.

A Roman soldier who tried to do that to a Roman Citizen would have been crucified. He got off easy.

I totally agree.

On the other hand, a Roman soldier who failed to destroy the problem when faced with an uncivilized African savage, would be similarly crucified.

If my kid behaved like this one, I would have gone down to the school and flipped her chair over myself.

Needs to sue. No due process or review.

South Carolina is an at-will employment state. He's not entitled to due process or review if his employer decides not to provide it.

I couldn’t possibly disagree more. I am on the polar opposite end of the spectrum from you on this, the cop was totally out of control.

I couldn't possibly disagree more. If the young "entitled" undisciplined African savage had not resisted the authority of civilized behavior, her desk would not have been upset. She herself precipitated the escalation.

Sheriff Leon Lott has been in big time trouble in the last few years and it’s a wonder he still has a job. He’s trying to cover his ass. He let’s his deputies conduct drills, in direct violation of Posse Comitatus with real soldiers from the 3rd Special Forces Group out of Ft. Bragg. He also got in all kinds of hot water for trading two airplanes that were the property of the Federal government. I’ve watched the video and the deputy in question did absolutely nothing wrong. Mark Furhman watched the tape yesterday and said every tactic used by the deputy was proper and he would be exonerated for his actions.

So now this character has called in the FBI to investigate the cop for doing his job in a local high school. Can anyone tell me why the FBI is needed in this incident? This is a local matter. Plus of course it is being investigated as Civil Rights HATE CRIME!

So instead of putting this deputy on leave until the investigation is completed this Sheriff immediately fires him, and ruins his life in the process, all the while why he’s making $150,000 a year for playing General Patton with real soldiers.

I’m often critical of cops, having had experiences within my own family group of abusive police behavior, but in this case the cop was right on. What the outraged class does not get is that these kids who act out in class and refuse to obey authority are heading, inevitably, to prison at some point. No employer will put up with that type of behavior. If that were my kid acting that way, I’d consider they got what they deserved. If the girl had let go of the desk, it would not have been flipped.

I think the video has been taken down, because when I followed the link, it said it didn’t exist.

What do you call Blue Rage when it happens in the home? Chances are his family is also intimidated. The sheriff should send social service to that cop’s home.
*********************************************************************************
So Zuben, how SPECIFICALLY would YOU have handled the defiant YUTE who had “acted up”, repeatedly refused to obey school officials (including refusing to leave), refused lawful orders from the cop and finally resisted arrest. Enquiring minds would like to know...possibly so we could assess whether to send social services to your home.

And you, of course, have the opportunity to Monday morning quarterback and to NOT have time or situational issues restrict you.

I think the policeman should have been able to throw a bucket of water on the black female. It would have 1) ruined her day 2) ruined her cell phone and 3) would have required her to leave the room to dry. If I had a white child in that school I’d jerk her out of there in a heartbeat. The teachers with classes of 40% or more blacks in the class have a real hard time teaching because of black culture.

Glad that a nitwit asked the stupid question.

I would thank the cop for teaching my undisciplined BIG animal kid the concept of consequences.
The little animal herself caused the chair to flip, while simultaneously punching at the cop's head and face, and holding the desk tight with her legs.

Never mind the shame and inadequacy I would feel at having raised an animal instead of a social human being.

He should have dragged that chair, with the student in it, across the room, out the door, down the hall and outside to the parking lot and left her sitting in the chair to make a spectacle of herself in front of her peers. Without the attention from the teacher and school officials she was receiving in refusing their requests, the whole matter would have lost steam and she would be just left to pout on her own.

Any parent of kids this age, knows that the more you demand them to do something they don't want to do, the less likely they are inclined to do it, if for no other reason than stubborn rebellion. By ignoring them and not giving them the attention they seek, the situation would have diffused itself on its own and a violent confrontation like the one on the video would not have taken place.

Just my opinion....

FamiliarFace :" I think the video has been taken down, because when I followed the link, it said it didn’t exist."

Probably because it will be used in litigation .
Don't forget , the FEDS are now looking into it , and they (and Crump and Company, stooge attnys at law)are probably involved.
You remember Crump and Company rite ? ( the attny's who employed a 'Social Engineer' to control the facts , the evidence, and the media voice)
No surprize here !
