Long Range Strike Bomber Contract Awarded to Northrop Grumman

The Air Force just announced that the Long Range Strike Bomber contract has been awarded to Northrop Grumman.

Always liked it too but loved the F4U Corsair the most from that era.

The P47 would be in the running for second.

So Strange McNamara managed to find a nut. In the 60s a high altitude bomber with a radar cross section only marginally smaller than the factory which built it was outdated technolgy

While Soviet air defenses were continually improving, it was generally accepted that the B-70 (had it gone into production) would have been able to do exactly what the B-52 did, using the ill-fated Skybolt and/or the AGM-28A (Hound Dog) air to ground missiles, and the advantage of the B-70 over the 52 is that it could accomplish the same mission at speeds up to Mach 3.

They are saying they want to build 80 to 100 with a per plane cost around 500 mil... which seems crazy low.

Not if you build them in CHINA................
