While Soviet air defenses were continually improving, it was generally accepted that the B-70 (had it gone into production) would have been able to do exactly what the B-52 did, using the ill-fated Skybolt and/or the AGM-28A (Hound Dog) air to ground missiles, and the advantage of the B-70 over the 52 is that it could accomplish the same mission at speeds up to Mach 3.
