White House Disagrees With F.B.I. Chief on Scrutiny as a Cause of Crime
New York Times ^ | October 26, 2015 | MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT and MATT APUZZO

WASHINGTON — The White House said Monday that it did not agree with the assertion last week by the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, that additional scrutiny of law enforcement in the past year may have made police officers less aggressive, leading to a rise in violent crime in some cities.

“The evidence we have seen so far doesn’t support the contention that law enforcement officials are shirking their responsibilities,” the White House press secretary, Josh Earnest, said in response to a question about Mr. Comey at his daily briefing. “In fact, you hear law enforcement leaders across the country indicating that that’s not what’s taking place,”

In a speech at the University of Chicago on Friday, the F.B.I. director said there might be many factors — like cheaper drugs and easier access to guns — that had spawned an increase in crime. But none of them were as convincing to him as the notion that officers were afraid to get out of their patrol cars and deal directly with people on the street because the officers were afraid their interactions would be caught on video.

Mr. Comey acknowledged there was no data to back it up, but he said law enforcement leaders and officers had told him it was affecting policing.

“I spoke to officers privately in one big city precinct who described being surrounded by young people with mobile phone cameras held high, taunting them the moment they get out of their cars,” Mr. Comey said. “They told me, ‘We feel like we’re under siege and we don’t feel much like getting out of our cars.’ ”

How dare anyone disagree with Obama and his henchmen? Comey's talks with police officers don't count as "data", nor does the rise in crime year-over-year.

I thought the morons in the White House didn’t believe in crime. Everything is fair game in Barry’s “fundamentally transformed” Amerika.

Where is easier access to guns taking place?

Neighborhood peace commissions might be good. If you live in the neighborhood, you should confront the bad guys personally. If you don’t feel like doing that, you can live in a community run by bad guys.

And I think it goes without saying that Neighborhood peace commissions should be allowed to operate with a great deal of latitude.

Scrutiny? How about racist persecution of cops for doing their jobs?

Hmmmmm ..?? I see this differently.

Very soon, the FBI is going to be making a decision on what to charge Hillary Clinton with, regarding her email stuff, as well as Benghazi.

This is the first time I can recall Obama disagreeing with Comey on anything. And .. therefore .. I’m wondering if this is the beginning of the Admin’s disapproval of Comey; causing the DOJ to stop him from charging Hillary with anything ..??

From this, other members of the admin may chime in and start a regular onslaught of ugly comments about Comey.

I guess we’ll see what happens.

“I thought the morons in the White House didn’t believe in crime.”

To the liberal mind, there is no “crime”. There is the lack of immediate legal opportunity :(.

So if someone is told by a cop to exit their vehicle they shouldn't because they fear being caught on their dash cam video?

They took down the leadership of the gangs and ended up with 8,000 sets. No control.

Police officers are given great authority but a lit believe incorrectly that they have great power.

They actually have authority but bot true power.

Power means you can do anything without repercussions or scrutiny.....lime a third world dictator.

Police have a mountain of policies and laws they must follow....a voice speaks words over a radio and they have to do what that voice tells them to do (dispatcher) and all the while followiing thw written policies and laws.

When encountering a suspect they are always reacting to the suspect’s actions. ..never dictating...always reacting...

They have very little control.

That is authority not power.

This causes an inner conflict for those that do not see what the actual circumstances are....it makes thise cops frustrated ....sometimes angry...becusse they don’t understand why they are not in control when they think they have actual power.

The same holds true for the public who believe police possess true power.

Tney get angry when police cannot make bad things stop happening....when thenpolice are human and make mistakes....when there are bad outcomes that with 20/20 hindsight the circumstances look much clearer and easier.
