Police officers are given great authority but a lit believe incorrectly that they have great power.

They actually have authority but bot true power.

Power means you can do anything without repercussions or scrutiny.....lime a third world dictator.

Police have a mountain of policies and laws they must follow....a voice speaks words over a radio and they have to do what that voice tells them to do (dispatcher) and all the while followiing thw written policies and laws.

When encountering a suspect they are always reacting to the suspect’s actions. ..never dictating...always reacting...

They have very little control.

That is authority not power.

This causes an inner conflict for those that do not see what the actual circumstances are....it makes thise cops frustrated ....sometimes angry...becusse they don’t understand why they are not in control when they think they have actual power.

The same holds true for the public who believe police possess true power.

Tney get angry when police cannot make bad things stop happening....when thenpolice are human and make mistakes....when there are bad outcomes that with 20/20 hindsight the circumstances look much clearer and easier.
