What the Times and the Violence Policy Center omit from the data is how many lives were saved or crimes stopped by concealed carry.

The statistics obsess on ONLY situations where someone dies - when the whole point is concealed carry SAVED LIVES by _nobody_ dying.

"763 people have been killed in 579 shootings that did not involve self-defense."

And how many of those were suicides? Based on other data, government data, is should be well over 60%. Since this is presumably dealing with CCW permit holders I bet it is over 80% suicides.

How long will the American people allow these propaganda mills to operate?

Gosh, this is such a poorly-written editorial that it is almost unreadable. Anyway, the study linked from the editorial says that there were 235,000 defensive uses of firearms in a single year. While this figure is used to contradict the NRA’s figure of 2.5 million, it is still an enormous figure! And the fact that very few of these 235,000 uses required fatally shooting the attacker is a good thing and does not support the NYT’s argument at all.

All it proves to me is that gun free zones don’t work.

We all know the best people to advise us on concealed carry and gun control are liberal wussies who wet their panties at the sight of a cloud or a Pop-Tart in the shape of the letter “L”.

So if carrying weapons is not effective in stopping criminals, why do cops carry guns? Do not say they are trained professionals. Most departments have minimal training in the academy and no further mandatory training or re-qualification. Consider the officer in front of the Empire State Building years ago who fire several times hitting the perp once and wounding several bystanders.

The Second Amendment was given to the people to protect them from the type of totalitarian scum that inhabits the NYT and the “Violence Policy Center.”

Go to hell, NYT. You are an ENEMY of the Bill Of Rights, the people, and of freedom.

Geesh, who does the editing of the editorial board rantings? This is nearly incoherent. What I glean is (1) the Times is carefully concealing that the VPC is the premier propaganda spout for firearms confiscation, and (2) that "concealed carry" has suddenly morphed to cover both licensed and illicit carry. And (3) that the amorphous, unnamed "gun lobby" is somehow preventing the VPC from writing more propaganda, although precisely how is left somewhat ambiguous.

However, if data is desired there isn't really much of a shortage as the Times complains. There is, for example, the rather inconvenient phenomenon of plummeting murder rates plotted against increasing rates of concealed carry detailed HERE. Opposed to the sophomoric "You're all a bunch of Rambo wannabes" sneering is cold, hard fact. Pity the Times doesn't deal in that these days.

"The more that sensational gun violence afflicts the nation, the more that the myth of the vigilant citizen packing
a legally permitted concealed weapon, fully prepared to stop the next mass shooter in his tracks, is promoted."

How foolish to think that guns can be effective in protecting anyone from violence.

since 2007, at least 763 people have been killed in 579 shootings that did not involve self-defense"

Not self defense cause the victim had no gun. Also I assume there have been more that 763 people killed!

Get over it. The purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to bring down a corrupt government when it gets out of hand.

The important point I don’t see discussed much is that it is a psychological influence for the would-be shooter:
If the shooter says to themselves “Hmmm, there might be people with guns there so I should pick another location where they don’t carry guns.” then the first location is safer.
To me that is a powerful argument for concealed carry. Otherwise the shooter thinks, oh I’ll just go to a school or a theater where no-one has a gun.

Links don't support the assertions in the editorial! They are simply making **it up!!!!! The New York Times has jumped the shark and is nothing more than a left wing propaganda outlet.

We can only hope and pray that the next economic downturn takes the Times with it!
