Trump is like Reagan and the media is clueless about it
The Hill ^ | 10/19/2015 | Ann Coulter

Neurotically ignoring the fact that Donald Trump’s position on immigration has catapulted him to the lead for the Republican presidential nomination, the media diminish his soaring poll numbers with a scrolling series of rationalizations. Trump might or might not be the nominee, but the dismissals of him are wishful thinking, not historical fact.

All summer, for example, we were smugly assured that polls mean nothing this far in advance of an election. Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) campaign manager Terry Sullivan assured Politico: “Show me the candidate who was first place in August who ended up winning in February.” I hope Rubio’s advisers are as sure about this as they were about amnesty being a big hit with voters. Then it was September, and Trump was still in first place, so Rubio boasted to CNN, “We want to be in first place in February, not in August or September.”

The way things are going, at some point, Rubio’s line will have to be, “We want to be in first place in March, not in February. No, wait! We want to be first place in June, not in April.” In fact, most candidates who were in first place the summer before an election year went on to be the nominee. Luckily, Politico is not a website primarily concerned with politics or it might have known this. Among them: Ronald Reagan in August 1979, Walter Mondale in August 1983, Michael Dukakis (tied for first) in August 1987, Bob Dole in August 1995; George W. Bush in August 1999 and Mitt Romney in August 2011.

There is nothing in the polls that would indicate Trump would win anything.

In most states it would be a run-off, which indications are he would lose because all that have any willingness to vote for him are already supporting him.

That isn’t true for most of the other candidates.

Trump definitely has way more people against him than for him.

I believe that there is a qualitative difference between a real estate developer building a building on land he owns and a politician (Trump is one now whether he or others like it or not) trying to navigate the political world such that campaign promises can be fulfilled.

That’s the reality you are willfully ignoring.

Well you should’ve said that in your original post. :)

But I’m glad you replied because I wanted to note I made the mistake of taking your sentence out of context. I didn’t realize it until I made my reply. But your entire argument in your original post is valid: we can’t truly compare Trump and Reagan until Trump is president for a few years.

The ‘commies’ of the MSM like Trump, as long as he is diverting potential votes away from the coming conservative victory.

Trump does have some Reagan in him!

Reagan is famous for his belief that it was amazing what could be accomplished if you didn't care who got credit for it. And Reagan had no problem admitting when he was wrong. Trump, on the other hand, has a ego that doesn't allow sharing credit with anyone and couldn't admit a mistake if his life depended on it. There is no Reagan in Trump.
