I hate to see folks go down the road with the idea they don’t have to pay income tax. It’s a no win, and Schiff is a good lesson in what it generally winds up being like for them.

Guys that advocate this idea should be dealt with before they lead others into terrible situations.

Thanks for posting. Condolences to Peter and the remainder of family and friends of Irwin Schiff.

9. The management of a great funded debt and a extensive system of taxes will afford a plea, not to be neglected, for establishment of a great incorporated bank. the use of such a machine is well understood. If the Constitution, according to its fair meaning, should not authorize it, so much the better. Push it through by a forced meaning and you will get in the bargain an admirable precedent for future misconstructions.

8. (4) A great debt will require great taxes; great taxes, many taxgatherers and other officers; and all officers are auxiliaries of power.

11. As soon as sufficient progress in the intended change shall have been made, and the public mind duly prepared according to the rules already laid down, it will be proper to venture on another and a bolder step toward a removal of the constitutional landmarks.

R.I.P., sir

6. But the grand nostrum will be a public debt…

I understand going to prison for willful deliberate refusal to pay taxes. But to not let him out to die with his family as he was on his deathbed is -utterly depraved- and sick of our government.
Our government is killing the loyalty anyone should hold for it.

A very intelligent man who ultimately over indulged in the radical libertarian Kool-Aid. His son has followed in his footsteps. They are both heroes to the Ron Paul anarcho-libertarian wingnuts. I however, do not view him in that light. In the end he was a political crank who got a lot of people in serious trouble peddling the legal equivalent to snake oil.

My sympathies to those who no doubt loved and cared for the man. But I will pass on the political canonization. Thanks anyway.

Irwin Schiff was a hero, political prisoner, and a martyr in the cause of fighting the Tyrannical abomination known as the Progressive income tax.

I haven't filed since 1996. And I won't.

And, yes, by hook or by crook, that means I might go to prison. Or not.

That doesn't mean the income tax is legitimate. It's not.

Either way, I won't submit to their extortion.

The income tax should be abolished. It's the epitome of collectivist Tyranny, and its apologists should be ashamed of themselves.

During President Ronald Reagan’s tenure in office he found out with his Grace Commission Report in 1984 that

“With two thirds of everyone’s personal income taxes wasted or not collected, 100 percent of what is collected is absorbed solely by interest on the federal debt and by federal government contributions to transfer payments. In other words, all individual income tax revenues are gone before one nickel is spent on the services [that] taxpayers expect from their government.”

His position evolved to mostly arguing (among other things) that by his reading of the true legal definition of “income,” neither you nor I had any, “income” properly defined according to his reading of court decisions and statutes being only corporate profits.>>
Brian does a very bad article reason mag is not what it used to be.
However Irwin is mostly right. paychecks are not income. sorry big gvt.
