I would disagree. TWD has grown more and more fascist of late, with Rick considering everyone who’s not of his tribe as unfit untermenschen who deserve to be eaten, and acting accordingly. The problem with this being that, if you look over the span of the series, he’s made endless bad moves that led to disasters.
More to the point, the TWD and its spinoff don’t show the values of conservatism, but of nihilism. The only people who survive are junkies, pimps, rednecks and psychos — human raccoons.

I totally get the shtf connection. It’s the 40 and under people’s fetish/fixation with zombies that creeps me out.

Andrea was the best of the lot. With her death, hope for humanity died with her.

all of the democrats in the democrat debate were zombies except for bernie sanders. he was just a crazy old coot. l
ike a hollywood mogul’s crazy uncle from brooklyn as michael savage put it.

you thought these guys died out 20-30 years ago. bernie survived by going up to vermont where all successful new yorkers go in their second life.

I know its not reality thank you.
Clearly personal tastes in entertainment vary. My dislike of the zombie/vampire genre is just my own personal taste. My entertainment preferences don’t center on rotting flesh and death. To each their own.

FWIW, Look at it (The Walking Dead) as a modern day parable. There are some lessons to be learned and some warnings if you look beyond the zombie thing.

For example, back in the 50s the sci-fi movie "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" was a subtle warning about communism.

Classic movie. I watched it on TCM the other night and could really see the communist comparison. Like I said earlier, it’s the people who dress up like zombies and have a fixation for them that I find disturbing.

Rick's made some terrible mistakes, gotten good people killed, and pissed off people who could've been allies.

That's Rick. He's no superman. He never asked to be. He's a small-town sheriff with, at best, a high school education. Leadership was a role that was thrust upon him and he's learning on the fly.

That's what makes his character so compelling. He's an everyman. If he always made the right decisions and always did what was good, it wouldn't be real.

As far as his fascism is concerned, Rick only cares for the survival of his family. Nothing else matters. He can't save everyone. He has nothing but contempt for the Alexandrians who he views as soft, privileged to essentially ride out the Zombie Apocalypse in comfort while his "tribe" was scavenging for dog food. He's certainly not going to let any of them call the shots.

At this point the zombies have become a nuisance. It's other humans who are the real threat. And in a true SHTF situation, this is how it would be. Zombies are just the vehicle to put viewers in front of their TVs. An equally compelling story could get rid of the zombies altogether and have the scenario be a nuclear holocaust, ravaging pandemic or EMP attack.

The only story here is surviving in a world where all the comforts of modernity are gone, where the only thing that matters is staying alive, keeping your loved ones alive and where this is the only thing that matters to everyone you encounter.

And if you living means others have to die, if your children eating means other people's children have to starve, that's the cruel world.

I agree. Those people are living in a fantasy world. Look at the some of the hard core Star Trek groupies. Some have actually learned to speak Klingon!

Zombies and Isis?
Nope.

Zombies and liberals (aka Walking Deadocrats) is
the comparison. That is plain FReeper logic

Bump to all of that. Rick can get dark---he HAS---but he'll never be evil. The entire group is damaged, and understandably so.

That pretty well sums it up. The zombies just happen to be the latest craze to bring on the Apocalypse.

For a different twist watch the movie "The Road" if you haven't already. No zombies, but some really bad humans. Good movie but very depressing.

I merely look at the obsession with Zombies as glorification of the culture of death.... same thing with ISIS and other terrorist groups. It is a fascination with the macabre rather than interest in what is good and beautiful.

No, it’s entertainment first. And secondly, it’s an allegory showing the benefits of BEING PREPARED AND BEING WILLING TO DO WHAT IS NECESSARY to fight “monsters”.

See my post # 46. I think it’s fair to say we can have different opinions on what constitutes good entertainment. Miley Cyrus is entertainment too... doesn’t mean she is any good.

“Local folks here call the every-growing “homeless” population of crazy people, drug addicts and bums “zombies” or “Obamazombies” (since they first started appearing once Obama was elected). And they are increasingly violent and abusive, so we know first-hand about zombie world. People are quite fed up about it actually.”

I think it’s a safe way for millenials to think about the insane world we live in (jihad, BLM, Mexican drug lords and their minions, etc etc) without having to think of themselves as racist.

Your fixation on the miniscule number of ppl who do this is quite interesting. Almost to a curious fascination. Oh go ahead and get your zombie outfit—live out your fantasies.

Could be both. I work with two women who like it. Both said they like to follow the relationships. One also admitted to liking the genre.

I tried it but found the violence numbing. And I don't want to be completely desensitized to brutal violence.
