Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York intends to meet with members of Israel’s Palestinian community during his first Middle East visit since taking office, a gesture toward inclusivity by one of the country’s most liberal leaders and a sharp break from his predecessors. Stories from Our Advertisers
Mr. de Blasio, who will depart for Jerusalem on Thursday, examined the possibility of visiting Ramallah, in the West Bank, during his three-stay stay in Israel.
That trip is now unlikely to happen in part because of security concerns related to the recent outbreak of Israeli-Palestinian violence in the region.
Instead, Mr. de Blasio, a Democrat, is arranging to visit with students, parents and faculty members of a bilingual school in Jerusalem, where Arab, Israeli and Palestinian children attend classes together. The meeting is expected to take place near a kibbutz west of Jerusalem. . .
