The Episcopal Church drops below two million mark on PB Jefferts Schori's watch

When the 2014 stats came out last week, it was no surprise that The Episcopal Church had again lost membership across the board. However, the newest released figures show that there is a dip in most church growth indicators -- total membership, ASA, congregations, baptisms, communicants, faith formation pupils, confirmations, and receptions from other Christian denominations. There is a slight uptick in marriages and an increase in funerals.

For the first time in 75 years, The Episcopal Church's total membership dipped below the two million member mark. TEC's just-released official 2014 stats show worldwide church membership standing at 1,956,042. The last time Episcopal Church membership was below two million was in 1939 when there were 1,996,434 Episcopalians.

I pray genuine Christians of any and all Bible- honest denominations can outreach, go evangelize at episcopal and pcusa and other “lost” “churches” — and that the “wolves in sheeps clothes” episcopal and pcusa clerics may be “outted” ASAP. Missions overseas are great but there are some tremendous needs here at home

What you are witnessing is the “elderly leaving the Catholic Church without any backfill”

We attend a traditional Latin Mass parish, staffed by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP). The "social hour" after each Sunday Mass, in the church basement, is full of children. We joke that the Bishop gave us this beautiful but otherwise vacant church so that he could get all the troublemakers in one place. Whether that's true or not, we have a lively parish.

In Burlington Vt, a group of the truly faithful have removed themselves from St Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral. They have been taken in by the local Greek Orthodox church where their hosts allow them to conduct services not approved by the Vermont diocese or the Episcopal Church USA. These faithful believe the Bible is the inspired word of God.

My son is an Episcopal priest. They did minister to him more in his teenage years when our Baptist minister was too distracted to do so. - I hope and pray he gets out of it soon; not that I’m all that enthralled with the Baptist church. I will say, though, that at least for now, our current preacher seems to stay on message; but the derned Democrats in the congregation will not tolerate any challenge to their Democrat religion by the preacher or anyone else. - In that former Baptist church, that preacher took that church down a questionable road; totally rebelled against the original group that hired him and ended up creating a whole new denomination.

Is Liberalism a self-limiting disease?

Self-limiting and self-destructive.

Easy divorce, abortion on demand, male-bashing, homosexuality-endorsing. What can go wrong?

They have some really nice buildings that actual believing Christian churches might be able to snatch up at a bargain.

When I attended Explorer’s/Confirmation classes with my husband, who was converting, back in the mid 80s, the other class members were predominately Roman Catholics. Most of those were becoming Episcopalian as a compromise choice with Protestant spouses.

Katherine Jefferts Schiori, who will soon be stepping down, is a former Roman Catholic from baptism. Her replacement Michael Curry, is a former Baptist if I remember correctly.
