ROSEBURG, Ore. — A week has passed since J.J. Vicari huddled underneath a desk while gunshots exploded in the classroom next door. Now, he is thinking about guns. Not about tightening gun laws, as President Obama urged after nine people were killed at the community college here. But about buying one for himself.
“It’s opened my eyes,” said Vicari, 19. “I want to have a gun in the house to protect myself, to protect the people I’m with. I’m sure I’ll have a normal life and never have to go through anything like this, but I want to be sure.”
Obama plans to visit Roseburg on Friday to meet the grieving families of yet another gun rampage, but many people here are bristling at his renewed call for stricter gun laws. In some ways, the rampage at the college by a 26-year-old student, Christopher Harper-Mercer, has actually tightened the embrace of guns in a rural town where shots at rifle ranges echo off the hills and hunters bag deer and elk through the fall.
Some families touched by the violence and students who fled gunfire said they now feared that the kind of bloodshed seen inside Classroom 15 at Snyder Hall, Umpqua Community College, could happen anywhere.
Some said they were planning to buy guns. Others said they would seek concealed-weapons permits. Others, echoing gun-advocates’ calls for more weapons on campus, said the college should allow its security guard to carry guns.

Fair question. Deserves an answer. the college issued a no gun zone so good people could not defend themselves against slaughter by a Black who hated White “pigs” and Christians. Then they had a security guard armed with mace. If you were on that jury — How would you vote?
And continue to abide by signs.

Local accounts say that they have video of the stabbing and the perps were Asians. And that the altercation was over a woman. Not saying that they are not Muslims, but the local cops ( if you can believe them” are saying it wasn’t an Islamic attack.

It should be quite evident to most that the ‘police state’ will not protect the individual.
“I walk into a store. I don’t expect the store to protect me. I walk into a bank. I don’t expect the bank to protect me.”
Me neither. That’s why I carry a gun. Except when I go to my kid’s school - I can’t. (Well I could, but I won’t, as if on the odd chance I got caught then I would be without a gun the rest of my life).
Anyway - so now that the school has taken away my natural born and God given right to self defense - it now takes on that responsibility.
The UK accounts call them Asians which is code for Muslims.
Nope, I do not disagree. I personally ignore gun free zones, those are warnings to criminals, the zones have nothing to do with me protecting myself. Thr Gun Free Zone signs tell me the designated areas where I most likely should carry. If I’m not armed, I do not enter them.
And when they don’t?
If they don’t and something happens, they may hope I am killed; if I survive, they WILL be sued.
The only preventative will be a “law” requiring the prohibition. As far as I know, in this area, no such law exists for private businesses. Only the post office or government buildings.
