Britain's New Labour Leader Snubs The Queen
The Telegraph ^ | 10-08-2015 | Christopher Hope

Jeremy Corbyn has snubbed the Queen by refusing to be sworn into the Privy Council on Thursday, as it emerged he could use a loophole to join the advisory body without ever meeting Her Majesty.

The Labour leader, a lifelong republican, is known to have reservations about kneeling in front of the Queen and kissing her hand as he swears an oath of allegiance to her, which is the normal process when a new Privy Councillor is sworn in.

And having refused to sing the National Anthem at a Battle of Britain 75th anniversary service last month, Mr Corbyn tried to dodge the issue by saying he could not attend tomorrow’s meeting due to unspecified “prior engagements”.

The Labourites have really screwed the pooch with this one.

This guy looks like a wino laying in the gutter who the Laborites propped up and pressed forward. I hope he implodes like Galloway.

Corbyn doesn’t want a republic. He wants to be de-facto king.

Uhh...no fan of the Marxist La-bore party in Britain here.

But being an American, have no problem with a guy not wanting to genuflect to a fraud who says her genetics qualifies her to rule over others.

Think that’s the exact issue my ancestors had with the same people, and we won that argument.

I wouldn’t go quite that far... (less class than Obama)

It truly is unacceptable for a person to come in and act as if he is the be all end all by doing this sort of thing.

If there is an issue to be addressed, you go through the motions and address it in a professional manner.

This does remind one of Obama, no doubt.

Obama has just about disrespected our whole nation, and all of our allies, while supporting our worst enemies.

This guy has one or two marks against him here.

He needs to spend 6.5 years doing things like Obama until he meets and exceeds his standard.

So it’s not only America which can elect a disloyal anti- Christian, anti- Semitic commie

Amazing, someone with less class than Obama.

Not so fast. King Barack still has over a year left in power. He still has time to sink lower.

Hey, a grown-up! Go figure!

Why swear fealty to a figurehead with no more usefulness than a photograph or statue?

NOT sarcasm. I agree with this guy and understand it completely.

With all due respect, you're looking at it as an American, not as someone who grew up in Britain. There, this queen is seen as generally pretty fair and normal, and is respected and loved. There's some anti-monarch sentiment, but not much.

Canada and Australia are about 60-40 pro-monarchy, and declining as more non-Commonwealth immigrants arrive ...

Good call.
Interesting to see what an actual Brit has to say.

Bad call. The Queen is probably the best briefed head of state in the world and is a tremendous asset to a smart politician. He will regret this.

If the United States had some sort of similar ceremony to publicly profess fealty to the Constitution before become a formal candidate for election as President, perhaps we might have seen what we were getting from Obama. Of course, he would have lied through his teeth, but he may have slipped up along the way with his arrogance and contempt for our country.

It sounds like Britain has elected their own Bernie Sanders. Whatever once feels about the monarchy, this just seems disrespectful.

I meant good call to ping Lucy, an actual Brit, to get her opinion.
I know she isn’t the only Brit here at FR, just the only one I can recall.

I am actually not an anti monarchist. I leave that to the folks in the UK to work out.

If it has been the custom to meet with the Queen and pay some sort of homage, I think he should have done so.
If he has problems about the procedure, he should have worked to change it after the fact.

Stupid politicians do stupid things everywhere in the world.

If Cameron had the balls to call a snap election, he’d have a 2/3 majority.

------------------------------------

He can't. The "Fixed Terms Parliament Act" prevents the PM from calling an election before the five-year term. There can be an early election if he loses a confidence vote.

The change was a deal made under the Con/Lib coalition in the last Parliament. The Libs did not want Cameron calling an early election that might have seen the Cons win an outright majority, thus throwing the Libs out of government.

She doesn’t rule, she reigns.

A purely ceremonial head of state.
