Republican North Carolina Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) is urging all candidates for Speaker of the House to drop out of the race if skeletons in their closet might embarrass the Republican Party.
Jones sent a letter Wednesday to Republican Conference chairman Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) issuing a challenge to House Speaker candidates Reps. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), and Rep. Daniel Webster (R-FL).
Some of the most difficult times have been when our Republican leaders or potential Republican leaders must step down because of skeletons in their closets, Jones wrote. Weve seen it with former Speaker Newt Gingrich and Rep. Bob Livingston, who ran for Speaker in 1998.
With all the voter distrust of Washington felt around the country, Im asking that any candidate for Speaker of the House, majority leader, and majority whip withdraw himself from the leadership election if there are any misdeeds he has committed since joining Congress that will embarrass himself, the Republican Conference, and the House of Representatives if they become public, Jones wrote.
Jones reference to Bob Livingston makes clear that he thinks adultery should be one of the disqualifying skeletons in the race. Livingston withdrew from the Speakers race after Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt put out an open call for stories about Republican lawmakers cheating on their wives.

But system wouldn't let me use it because it was longer than 100 characters.
For DemoRats, “skeletons in the closet” is an instant qualifier...
Yea, preferably fetal skeletons.

Anyone can run for this position, anyone of us on FR could, anyone with a ‘sterling’ reputation out there?
This is certainly aimed at McCarthy who has had a long-term extramarital affair with Renee Elmers. Elmers went in as a “Tea Party” candidate to win election to Congress and abandoned her “conservative” principles in a New York minute upon arriving in DC by supporting AMNESTY.
I’m not sure what happened soonest...Elmers spreading her legs for McCarthy or her adopting a love for AMNESTY.
Yep.
This seems aimed directly at Jason Chaffetz.
Seems like a real Charlie Crist,Lindsey Graham type.
Pretty sure it’s aimed at McCarthy.
Strong hint to McCarthy...
BOOM!
Manwhore Kevin McCarthy and his sleeparound squeeze Renee Ellmers are probably giggling about this right now.
Shite, that pretty much eliminates the lot.
How do I sign up to run as Speaker?
Aimed at McCarthy and Jason Chaffetz. McCarthy for his alleged extramarital affair and Chaffetz for possible damaging information in his Secret Service file.

“BREAKING: GotNews.com Hit With Cease & Desist Letter For McCarthy-Ellmers Affair Story” GotNews.com has been hit with a cease and desist letter from the counsel of Congresswoman Renee Ellmers amid allegations of her own martial infidelity.
GotNews.com stands by its story regarding the DC, NC, and Bakersfield rumors regarding an alleged affair between Congresswoman Renee Ellmers and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy. We look forward to the opportunity to avail ourselves of deposition with seated members of congress should it come to that.
The letter, reproduced here, was written by Thomas A. Farr, an attorney from Ogletree Deakins, a white shoe law firm. Meanwhile Congressman Walter Jones of North Carolina has called for a full vetting of McCarthy before the speaker vote.

Pretty sure it doesn't apply to Chaffetz because he tried to join the Secret Service in 2003 and didn't become a Congressman until 2009.
Scores of U.S. Secret Service employees improperly accessed the decade-old, unsuccessful job application of a congressman who was investigating scandals inside the agency, a new government report said Wednesday. An assistant director suggested leaking embarrassing information to retaliate against Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, chairman of the House oversight committee.
Being turned down for employment in the Secret Service is not in and of itself "embarrassing information." Chaffetz needs to come clean on everything related to the SS disclosure before being considered for the third most powerful job in the Federal government and one person removed from the Presidency.
The inspector general's report found that more than 40 Secret Service employees accessed Chaffetz's 2003 job application a total of more than 60 times, even though they had "no official need to query Chairman Chaffetz' name."
The first inquiry was made March 24 just 18 minutes after Chaffetz opened a committee hearing into alleged Secret Service misconduct, the report says.
At least one employee acknowledged to inspector general investigators that he disclosed the protected information to a reporter for The Washington Post, according to the report, and in a further violation of the Privacy Act, some of the employees disseminated Chaffetz's data through the Secret Service email system, it says.
